🦘🐯 From the big top to a ripper Aussie day out! 🐯🦘

After all the excitement of the circus, Marcus, Liam and Oman were back out adventuring. This time exploring the wonders of Australia Zoo with their support workers.

From getting up close with incredible animals to sharing plenty of laughs, it was a joyful day of friendship, fun and memory-making. 🐊🦘😄

There’s no stopping this trio! 🌟

🎨🗳️ Vote for Xavier's artwork!

Last year, we proudly took part in the Brisbane City Council Artforce initiative — a program that transforms our city’s traffic signal boxes into vibrant artworks, celebrating local communities.

Our Artforce traffic box celebrates the creativity, stories and individuality of the children and young people we support. 💛You can find it on the corner of Fairfield Rd & King Arthur Terrace, right beside Xavier Place.

🗳️ Voting is now open to help decide the People’s Choice artwork.

👉 Cast your vote for Xavier’s traffic box and help our young artists shine.

🧱✨ Building skills, brick by brick ✨🧱

Over the recent school holidays, our Occupational Therapy team ran a LEGO®-based therapy group, where children built more than just creations.

Working together, they practised turn-taking, communication, collaboration and problem-solving in a fun, supportive small-group setting. This play-based, evidence-informed therapy approach helps build confidence, teamwork and self-advocacy — all through shared play.

More groups like this are coming — stay tuned 💛

💜💙 Feeding Tube Awareness Week 💙💜

For many children and families, tube feeding supports health, growth, energy and peace of mind.

As part of Feeding Tube Awareness Week (1–7 February), landmarks across Australia will be lit in purple and blue. Tomorrow, Brisbane’s City Hall and the Story Bridge will join in, to raise awareness and show support for the children, families and carers for whom tube feeding is part of everyday life.

At Xavier, our dietitians work closely alongside our speech pathologists and our wider allied health team to provide family-centred support for tube feeding with practical guidance and compassion.

🎶✨ A little creativity, a lot of joy ✨🎶

Recently at Xavier Place, Music Therapist Becca and guest Lochlainn (Lochie) tried out a new songwriting process — and it was magic. ✨

Lochie loves the ball pit, so Becca built on something he already enjoys. Taping musical notes onto the balls, Lochie pulled them out one by one, and each note was written down. One ball at a time, a song took shape 🎵

This playful approach supported Lochie’s meaningful engagement, built on his strengths and interests, and invited him into something new — all through joy, choice and creativity.

Lochie absolutely loved listening to his finished song. When we meet young people where they are, incredible things can happen.💛

Wishing all of our children and young people a happy first day of the new school year 💛

And a big shout-out to the parents, carers and families who’ve managed so much behind the scenes — from uniforms, lunch boxes and stationery to plenty of top-tier cheerleading. We see you!

Back to school can be a lot, but you’ve got this!

🎨🎶 Art and Music Therapy in Harmony 🎶🎨

Liam explored art and music during a creative arts therapy session at Xavier Place. 🌟

Using communication cards, gestures and eye gaze, Liam chose colours 🎨, materials, painted with his elbow and created his own beautiful artwork.

Live, improvised music 🎵 inspired by Liam's love of superhero 🦸‍♂️ and sci-fi 🚀 movies mirrored his movements, adding rhythm and flow to his creativity.

Smiles 😄, playful glances 👀 and intentional gestures filled the session as Liam expressed himself alongside Art Therapist Charlie and Music Therapist Becca 💙

☀️ Toilet Training This Summer ☀️

Summer can offer an opportunity to gently begin — or revisit — toilet training, with warmer weather, fewer layers of clothing and sometimes a little more flexibility in daily routines.

Toilet training is a big sensory experience for children from new sounds and sensations to learning how their body feels. For some children, including those with developmental delay, it can take a little longer to feel comfortable and confident.

In our latest article, Xavier Occupational Therapist Ushes shares her advice on how to approach toilet training this summer.

🎶 Kicking off the year with good vibes and great tunes 🎶

Our first week of 2026 at Xavier Place has been one to remember 💛 We’ve enjoyed river walks, cafés, local markets and laughter-filled car rides complete with our own carpool karaoke 🎤🚗.

Back at the house, we’ve loved relaxed movie sessions, creative arts with our therapists and plenty of fun together.

This video collage captures some of these beautiful moments, set to an original song written by our guests during the week 🎧✨.

What a wonderful way to start the year!
