Robert* had appeared on our caseload twice before, and my team and I were hoping the third time really would be the charm. We had tried to find him for weeks, and we weren’t about to give up. Robert’s health plan, an Integra ServiceConnect client, referred him to our program due to his high emergency room and inpatient utilization. When asked why he robbed banks, Willie Sutton famously said, “because that’s where the money is.” There is a parallel to the Willie Sutton principle in community health work. A major reason for our success in engaging hard-to-reach members and connecting them with services they need is that we go where they are. Our workplace is the community.
