This elephant is 48 years old. The age I was when I was at the height of my peri menopause struggles. I experienced just about every one of the documented symptoms, but my biggest struggles were with mood and sleep.

I had a healthy lifestyle and I’d always been a regular exerciser, but my stress levels were off the scale. I now know that this had a huge impact.

it was around this time, that I took up Yoga. 10 years later, I am here in India, a 200 hours qualified Hatha Yoga Teacher embarking on the next part of my training in the country of origin.

The 18th of October is world menopause day and the theme this year is lifestyle medicine.

If you are a woman having a challenging time in midlife there’s every chance your female hormones have something to do with it.

The good news is that simple, affordable lifestyle changes can be transformative: Eat real food, move every day, experiment with strategies to manage stress (yoga works for me), prioritise sleep and enjoy the company of others.

Of all the possible interventions movement helps more than you realise.

Everyone knows someone who is going through menopause. Spread the word that there is help and support available and sooner is better but it’s never too late.

I was in the middle of teaching my Pilates class on Thursday morning the 11th September in Bassingham, Lincs when we heard the unstable sound of the Lancaster flying over. The Lancaster was on its way to meet the newly assembled replica sculpture. This incredible photograph was captured. I have lived on or near airbases for the last 32 years and it always gives me a thrill to hear the roar of the engines. The sculpture is a Fitting tribute to the bomber crews that flew from this county during World War II. Lest we forget 🌺

Thrilled to share that I’ve been chosen to deliver the exercise component of a new research study on menopause symptom management — a milestone 5 years in the making.

We’re now recruiting women 40+ experiencing perimenopausal symptoms (not on HRT) for a 6-week programme at NTU Clifton Campus.

Includes weekly education + optional movement sessions with me.

Fitness is fun 😉 Especially at my Pilates summer social 🤣

I started my business during lockdown and this summer’s gathering was the best yet.

5years on I find myself With a full diary combining community Pilates classes, online groups, 1:1 physiotherapy and Pilates Reformer privates in my home clinic space.

It’s my dream job 😍 and I give it my all 💪

Thanks to my amazing clients who prioritise their health and my family and friends who have supported me on this journey.

Behind the scenes… (in the evenings and on weekends lol) I have been beavering away to put together my brand-new Pilates & Yoga Platform.

It is now in Beta testing! 🎉 with my wonderful members. This is a space for expert-led, physio-informed movement, designed especially to support people in midlife and beyond.

It’s about doing what matters, safely and steadily.

Movement is how I recharge, reset, and restore, and I love to share that with you.

I found this photo of me aged about 12 years. This was the tracksuit I wore when my family entered a competition run by Runners Weekly searching for ‘Britain’s Fittest Family’. We were 10th for 2 years running 😊

I’m off to the integrative personalised medicine Congress 2025 in London today. What a way to spend the longest day!

I’m a physiotherapist by training, but I’m passionate about holistic approaches to health that incorporate nutrition, mindset, and movement.

The news today that “Every baby will have their DNA mapped under an NHS revolution to predict and prevent disease within a decade” is music to my ears.

Your genes play an important role in your health, and your lifestyle and environment, such as what you eat and how physically active you are can cause changes that affect the way your genes work.

With this genetic information, we will be able to tailor interventions for each individual to optimise health and manage illness and disease BEFORE it manifests.

Information is power and I say BRING IT ON!

I’m excited to learn an embrace this paradigm shift towards personalised medicine for everyone, not just those who have the means to pay for it.
