Russia has announced a potential breakthrough in cancer treatment: its experimental cancer vaccine is now ready for use after completing successful clinical trials. Developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute—the same team behind the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine—the therapy is designed to train the immune system to identify and destroy cancer cells with high precision.

Using viral vector technology, the vaccine delivers genetic instructions that teach the body’s defenses to recognize proteins unique to malignant cells. Unlike preventive vaccines, it is a therapeutic treatment intended for patients already diagnosed with cancer, particularly those with solid tumors, and can be tailored to each patient’s genetic profile for maximum effectiveness.

Early trial results with hundreds of participants reported significant tumor shrinkage, delayed disease progression, and improved survival rates, all with minimal side effects. The vaccine is expected to work alongside standard treatments such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy, boosting their overall impact.

While the global medical community awaits peer-reviewed data and large-scale validation, the announcement has generated hope for a new, targeted tool in oncology. If confirmed to be safe and effective, the vaccine could mark a major advance in personalized medicine—offering a scalable way to treat one of the world’s deadliest diseases.

Russia’s move also intensifies the global race to develop cancer vaccines, with parallel efforts underway in the U.S., Germany, and the U.K. For millions of patients, it represents not just scientific progress but a possible lifeline.

Two Armed Men Killed Along Bambui–Fundong Road

Two armed men, part of a gang terrorising the Mile 11 stretch of the Bambui–Fundong road, were killed by government troops on Sunday, 28 September 2025.

The gang was notorious for intercepting vehicles and kidnapping passengers for ransom. On this occasion, the armed men reportedly arrived on motorbikes, stopping vehicles and extorting money from occupants.

Government troops, disguised in civilian clothing and travelling in a private vehicle, stormed the scene and opened fire as the gunmen attempted to intercept another vehicle, unaware of the soldiers’ presence. Additional troops, positioned in the nearby bush, provided support.

Two suspects were killed during the operation, while others managed to escape. Their motorbikes were recovered by the security forces.

Kidnapping for ransom remains a major concern in parts of Anglophone Cameroon, where such crimes have become alarmingly frequent, with ransom payments fuelling both criminal networks and armed groups.

This is Bafoussam in the West Region, one of the few regions in Cameroon with better roads, at least built to a decent standard.

Are you surprised? Maybe not… the Minister of Public Works, Djoumessi, is from the West, and it’s clear he put more energy into his region while others, including Yaoundé, struggle with muddy, broken roads.

Now imagine if he were an Anglophone minister, do you think it would have been the same? From history, Anglophone leaders often try to share opportunities fairly across regions. Sadly, that openness has sometimes made us look weak in the eyes of others, even earning us the painful nickname “anglofools.”

But is it really foolishness, or simply our belief in fairness and transparency? Have we learned from this, or should we keep holding on to the fight for equal rights?

What’s your take: is this fairness a strength or a weakness for Anglophones?

A breakthrough in global health could bring the world closer to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Lenacapavir, a long-acting injectable HIV prevention drug taken just twice a year, will soon be available in over 100 low- and middle-income countries at a dramatically reduced price.

Currently costing $28,000 (≈17 million CFA) per person annually, the drug’s price has been slashed to just $40 (≈24,000 CFA) per year—less than 0.1% of the original cost—under a landmark agreement brokered by former U.S. President Bill Clinton alongside the Clinton Foundation, the Gates Foundation, South Africa’s Wits RHI, and other partners.

The affordable version is expected to roll out across 120 countries by 2027. Lenacapavir, already approved in the U.S. and Europe and backed by the WHO, has shown a 100% success rate in clinical trials, offering vital protection to vulnerable groups including young women, LGBTQ+ communities, s*x workers, and people who use drugs.

Experts suggest it could soon replace daily oral PrEP, which faces stigma and limited uptake in many regions. With over 40 million people living with HIV worldwide, countries like South Africa—hardest hit by the epidemic—are expected to benefit early from the rollout.

Breaking News: Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger Announce Withdrawal from ICC

Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger declared on Monday, September 22, that they are withdrawing from the International Criminal Court (ICC) with immediate effect. The coordinated announcement, made in Bamako, Niamey and Ouagadougou, marks a joint decision by the three members of the Alliance of Sahel States, all currently led by military leaders.

In a statement, the three governments accused the ICC of applying "selective justice" and serving as an instrument of "neocolonial repression." The move comes months after the bloc announced plans to create its own Criminal and Human Rights Court and a regional high-security prison to handle terrorism and serious crimes in the Sahel.

CPDM humiliated during a rally in Ndogpassi, Douala

The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) suffered a major setback this Wednesday during a rally organized at the Ndogpassi market in Douala.

Accustomed to massive gatherings in the economic capital, the ruling party this time struggled to mobilize. Many chairs remained empty, while passersby looked on with indifference, even disdain, at the few militants who showed up.

Even more surprising, the gifts meant to win over the population (foodstuffs and other items) were rejected by several residents, who insisted they were demanding real change.

It was an embarrassing scene for the party of outgoing president Paul Biya, especially as many locals interviewed openly declared that the RDPC no longer has a place in Douala. The rift between the party and part of the population now seems definitive.
