I'm in my 13th year surviving a glio blastoma in the right front quadrant of my brain. At the time I was diagnosed, life-expectancy was around 2 years. I am now having symptoms that my Neurologist says are very much like M.S.
I went for an MRIlast Wednesday. Still anxiously awaiting the report- Patrick Gainer DX 8/3.2007.

So many questions: !. why did I survive? 2. How can a person with the resources that Beau Biden had at his disposal die and not really know what killed him? Brain Cancer definitely plays no favorites. Young, old,rich,poor, conservative, liberal, Christian, Atheist, beautiful( Beau Biden), ugly (me), nice, and not-so-nice. It can happen to you or to someone you love. Granted, the odds are rather low. brain tumors account for only 1.4% of cancers diagnosed. If you are lucky(UN) enough to have one of these ugly little creatures invade your skull and attach to your brain, you will learn rather quickly that your odds of surviving two years are,at present, pretty low. I believe the figure is less than 2%.Which leads to question #3.How do the parents of an eight year old even process diagnosis like that?And most important question #4. What are you going to do about it? I'm now an eight year survivor. How did I do it?I'm not really sure. I had a great neurosurgeon, a wonderful chemo oncologist and radio oncologist and a church family that prayed me through this great adventure. Also much credit goes to my late wife, Sherrie, and my beautiful daughter,Erin, without whose advocacy and loving support and patience, I'd surely have perished long ago.

I am a 4+ year survivor of an anaplastic astrocytoma grade III/IV. When I first received the diagnosis, my neurosurgeon told me that, statistically, my chances for survival past 18 months were extremely low. I have proven to both him and myself that I am not a statistic. Many prayers have been offered on my behalf, since that day in August 2007, and I am living proof that miracles do happen! I think God wants to show everyone around me that, if He (She) can love me, as messed up as I am, He (She) can love anyone. So, God let me stay on this earth a little longer to share that with the rest of you.

I want to name the Peninsula chapter of this group The Phyllis Diane Evans Memorial Chapter in memory of my dear sweet friend Diane, who left us September 18, 2011. Dianne was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1976. Complications resulting from removal of her tumor left Diane with many handicapping conditions. Despite all of her suffering, she was the most joyful soul and brightened the lives of all who knew her.

Sometimes inspiration comes out of the blue. I have been contacted by a person from Williamsburg about this network and it got me thinking about ways to get it going. I need help!
