Waterloo Region Lyme Disease group Waterloo Region Lyme Disease group. We are a group of Lyme patients and their supporters who meet once a month for support and education. Please join us.

Outside of the group we educate the public, raise funds, and advocate for political change. We believe that every Canadian has the right to free health care in their own country. We link with others and do what we can.

The following was posted today on OHOHCANADA or CanLyme (I don't remember already!) on Facebook. I copied and pasted..

IGENEX TESTING: Kit and I sent our blood to IGeneX two weeks ago. When I called for the results this week, they told me that we couldn't get them until our health care provider has seen the results first. This is the same line they told us 2 years ago. I reminded them that in 2014, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a final rule that granted a person direct access to their lab results without having to have them sent to a physician first.
Then the story changed. The rep then told me we could have our results if we faxed 2 separate letters with our names, dates of birth and our signatures on both, requesting the release of our results. The FAX number is (605) 424-1196: "Attention Customer Service." If you don't have a fax machine, send an e-mail.
If you have sent blood to IGeneX, you are entitled by US law to have your results sent directly to you. Don't accept anything less. Some unscrupulous Canadian physicians are telling patients their IGeneX results are "negative", when they really are "positive".

If you find a tick, take it to Public Health for testing. They won't test if its not off a human.

If you suspect Lyme disease: get tested in the States. Canadian tests are inaccurate and unreliable!

I have heard from a few people who are getting tested now in the States who think they were bitten at Long Point. Watch out in tick endemic areas but really, do your checks when you go in your backyard. Risk is lower but still there. Be careful on hiking and biking trails or anywhere there are birds, tall grass, trees or wild mammals like deer, chipmunks, mice etc. Have a safe summer.

After 20 or so years of Lyme, I'm climbing, singing, spending time with friends, family and a fantastic man...and I will start working full-time for the first time in 17 years!

Lyme and coinfections ARE BEATABLE!

Don't give up. Keep fighting. If I can battle back from being bedridden and not being able to speak and almost dying - SO CAN YOU!
Kick its ass!

Remember that with warmer weather ticks become very active. They are hungry from overwintering and are coming out to feed. May and October are their most active months, however, if you are anywhere outside where you could brush up against trees or bushes, where ticks could fall from trees out of the bird nests (birds carry ticks all over), make sure to do prevention methods:
Wear light clothing so you can spot them easier
Tuck in your pant legs into socks
Wear closed shoes not flip flops or sandals
Wear a hat
Wear at least 50% DEET but spray it on the clothes not directly on to your skin. That stuff is poison!
Do your tick checks after to ensure you haven't brought ticks into your home where they could get onto a family member
Check your animals every time they come in from an environment with trees and bushes...like your backyard.

Have fun out there but be smart and protect yourself and loved ones.

Very compelling and scary statistics. Please share because spring is almost here and ticks are active right now.
