On Friday, we hosted a special reunion between a patient and the bystanders, the paramedics and the communications officer that saved his life. Last August, a male in his 60s collapsed in cardiac arrest on Williams Street in the ByWard Market. Nicholas, a local resident, noticed that the man was unconscious and immediately contacted 9-1-1 where Brandon triaged the call and guided the resuscitation efforts. At the same time, an unidentified woman started CPR and Enoch, an employee of the ByWard Market District Authority, obtained the Public Access Defibrillator and delivered two shocks. When paramedics arrived within minutes, the patient had already regained consciousness. Paramedics Patrick, Bilal and Yaroslav continued to stabilize his condition during the transport to the hospital.

This clearly shows the importance of the Chain-of-Survival, crucial steps that must be taken to resuscitate a cardiac arrest. It starts with early recognition and activation of 911, followed high quality CPR, defibrillation and advanced life support. Through members of the community, the 9-1-1 system and the paramedic response, this patient is alive today and able to meet the individuals that saved his life. Congratulations to all of those who played a role in this special moment.

ZOLL AutoPulse NXT vs. LUCAS: Which is better?

When it comes to improving patient outcomes, both devices deliver. For us at Air Methods, the AutoPulse NXT is the best fit, with limited space in the aircraft and the critical nature of the patients we transport. It offers the right combination of performance, safety, size, and adaptability for our crews.

It’s not about which device is better, it’s about what works best for our mission while providing the best patient care.

Key Benefits of the ZOLL AutoPulse for Air Methods Include:
🚁 Consistent, high-quality CPR in flight and on the ground
🚁 Hands-free operation allows clinicians to provide other critical patient care
🚁 Compact and portable design ideal for aircraft cabin constraints
🚁 Improved safety for flight crews during turbulent conditions

Your shift has ended, you’re exhausted, but there’s a stack of charts to complete before you head home. How can you find relief? Read the blog to learn how.

Capturing important PCR details on scribbled notes and gloves increases errors and puts patient care at risk. Mobile contemporaneous charting can help.
