Today wraps up volunteer training at Hoodoo, and it also marks the end of training season for our incredible volunteers.

From fall orientation sessions to winter on-snow days, new and returning volunteers have shown up again and again to build skills, learn adaptive equipment, support athletes and instructors, and care deeply about doing things well.

Training takes time, energy, patience, and heart. We are so grateful to every volunteer who committed to growth, practice, and preparation.

Thank you for showing up, for learning, and for being such an important part of this community. We cannot wait to put all of this training into motion together!

Ski for Life returns this week!

Over the past few days, returning and new volunteers have been hard at work preparing for the season ahead. Through hands-on training, they are building skills in beginner and intermediate alpine and snowboard instruction, learning tools that support skill development, and deepening their understanding of the Oregon Adaptive Sports community and the students we serve.

Ski for Life is a partnership with more than ten Central Oregon schools, creating access to skiing for youth with disabilities supported through Life Skills Programs. Each week, students travel to the mountain for lessons at Mt. Bachelor and Hoodoo Ski Area, where they are paired 1:1 with a volunteer coach.

For three weeks, those relationships, lessons, and shared time on snow come together to create something steady, supportive, and deeply meaningful, creating lifelong skiiers.

Image Description: Three skiers move together across the snow after unloading a chairlift. In the center, a skier uses a slider while being supported on either side by two instructors on skis. All three wear helmets and winter gear. Large text reading “Ski for Life” repeats in the background, emphasizing the program name.

New paint, new layout, new room, same OAS energy.

This Friday, we are cutting the ribbon on the newly remodeled Oregon Adaptive Sports office at Mt. Bachelor. For years, this space has been the starting point for winter programs, where athletes, instructors, and volunteers gather, gear gets sorted, and the day takes shape before heading onto the mountain.

As programs have grown, the need for more space, better flow, and improved accessibility became clear. This remodel reflects the care that goes into how our days run and the strength of our partnership with Mt. Bachelor. It gives us a room that better supports the people who move through it, especially on busy winter mornings.

It feels good to pause and mark this moment, and to open a space that will support meaningful days ahead.

Athletes are back on snow, instructors and volunteers are reconnecting and training, and programs are moving forward. Early-season conditions can require flexibility, which this community meets with care, creativity, and commitment.

We are grateful to be back out there together!

Belonging at OAS is shared. Felt by athletes on the mountain, lived by instructors and volunteers, and sustained by YOU: donors and supporters of OAS!

Here’s why people choose to invest in this community:

“The donation is two-fold. First, it is to honor someone who believed that everyone should have an opportunity to experience the outdoors. Second, it is to support someone who volunteers with you and has supported me so much.” - OAS Supporter

“I just have a policy that if my friends are donating their time, I will contribute to their cause if asked. I know they need people to say yes and I hope it encourages them to do more good!” - OAS Supporter

“Organizations like yours break down boundaries, allow kids with any type of disability to be seen, accepted, and to thrive. I donate because of and on behalf of my aunt.” - OAS Supporter

“I rarely ski alone, because the feeling of sharing that experience is that valuable to me. So giving to OAS feels right to me.” - OAS Supporter

This is how belonging continues at OAS. Through YOU, the donors and supporters of OAS, who make access possible and ensure these experiences can be shared.

Thank you for being part of OAS.

Belonging at OAS radiates outward. Instructors and volunteers experience it in every moment they spend with athletes and each other—the patience, the encouragement, and the small gestures of care that make everyone feel seen, supported, and included.

"Inclusivity is a given," says OAS Program Coordinator and Snowboard Instructor Jesse Brown. "When you join this community, you know you’re already included in it."

The care and dedication that instructors and volunteers feel is extended outward every day. Athletes and families notice it:

"I love the passion that each staff member has to support my son. Every time he arrives, they greet him by name and with a smile. They know his preferences, and that makes us feel that our son is important to OAS." - Parent of an OAS Athlete

"Dear OAS Coaches and Volunteers, thank you for all the hard work, dedication, and passion you put into coaching. Your patience, encouragement, and expertise have made such a difference, and it’s why we keep coming back every season. We are so grateful for everything you do!” - OAS Athlete, Winter 24/25

Through their dedication, instructors and volunteers live belonging as they create it—connecting with athletes, collaborating with each other, and contributing to a community where everyone is seen and valued.

Tomorrow, we’ll share the final circle of belonging: the donors and supporters who sustain it all.

Because of OAS… athletes are seen, supported, and welcomed on the mountain. Belonging happens in every glide, every turn, every moment shared.

Welcome to the OAS Days of Belonging, where we’ll share what belonging looks like in our community—starting with the voices that matter most: our athletes.

"My experiences with OAS have allowed me to keep my head up, enjoy the outdoors, and keep me in touch with who I used to be." – Jerry Sebestyen, OAS Athlete

"For someone who has never skied before, I have had so much fun, and can never wait for my next session. The instructors and volunteers are truly amazing." – Julie Lorenzen, OAS Athlete

"The energy OAS created provided my child with the ultimate experience that he would not have without this program. I felt confident in his safety and it was clear he appreciated his autonomy!" – Parent of OAS athlete

Each of these experiences shows what belonging looks like on the mountain: confidence, joy, autonomy, and the freedom to be fully present. Every glide, every turn, and every shared laugh is a reminder of the community our athletes create and enjoy.
