Chair Up

Chair Up This page is dedicated to the Chair Yoga Teacher Trainings with Bart Adins “Sitting is the new smoking” is what you might hear from time to time.

Many of us live sedentary lifestyles and often struggle with physical pains that are related to this. However chairs are not necessarily harmful and can be used in good ways if one gets creative! First of all there are variable ways of sitting with some being possibly better for your body than others. During the workshop we will explore ways of finding support in sitting, using the ground (feet, sitting bones) and orienting upward. By increasing awareness you will discover a more efficient way of sitting, no matter what kind of chair you use in daily life. And we don’t have to sit to make chairs useful! We will use chairs to offer variations to a traditional yoga practice. Many yoga positions on the floor require a lot of mobility and can put unnecessary pressure on the body. By using chairs, we can adapt standing positions and sun salutations to acquire good movement habits and make these postures accessible to everyone. Yet we will not limit ourselves to chairs in our workshops and teacher trainings! We will use the chair as a transitional tool but also make a link to laying and standing.
