Anti-Anti-Vaccine Campaign Most people who post or share anti-vaccine propaganda on Facebook are not fanatics. This usually works and will help clean up the conversation on Facebook.

This campaign is about politely but firmly encouraging them to stop doing that. Opposition to vaccines has existed as long as vaccines and it's not going away. Social media, and particularly Facebook, have emerged as a powerful way for antivaxers to spread their message. Every time someone shares an anti-vaccine link it is seen by a large number of people, and the more often they see it the more credible the message may seem to uninformed people. I have had a policy of never letting antivax propaganda going unchallenged. I will politely respond with questions, arguments and links. Sometimes I am alone in challenging, but often other friends of the poster will join me. I make it clear that I respect their right to their opinion, I strongly disagree and that Facebook is a public forum and I object to their posting propaganda here. Usually the poster will stop posting anti-vax material. It becomes too much trouble, and they aren't all that committed to converting anyone else. If the poster is a fanatic and keeps posting, I hide their posts but continue to challenge anyone who reposts their nonsense. This works. I virtually never see antivax propaganda on my wall any more. If I do, I challenge. If you are willing to take this on as a practice, and invite your rational friends to take this on as a practice, we can go a long way towards cleaning up the Facebook environment. It's a small, but real step towards a rational future.

Just a reminder that Scott Adams tried using ivermectin to treat his cancer. As you can see, it didn't work.

According to a new report from the CDC, outpatient visits for “flu-like” illness are at their highest in nearly 30 years, and nine children have died of flu this season. In addition, a recently reported pediatric death from last year brings the 2024-’25 season total to 289, which is higher than any season since the CDC started tracking in 2004.

The surge in flu-like illness comes just as the CDC announced an overhaul to the childhood vaccine schedule that includes removing universal recommendations for numerous vaccines including flu. Despite changes to federal recommendations, the AAP will continue to recommend the flu vaccine for all children starting at six months of age.

What if you could protect yourself from the next pandemic from the comfort of your bathroom?

That’s the appeal of a special kind of floss that can deliver proteins and inactive viruses, priming the body against foreign invaders.

The unusual vaccination strategy shows promise in mice, and the public seems intrigued as well, making this one of our most popular stories of the year: https://scim.ag/40y0JxD

It’s not too late to get your flu vaccine. 💉❄️

We are still very much in flu season—and it’s a severe one.

According to new CDC data reported by ABC News:
• At least 7.5 million flu illnesses so far this season
• 81,000 hospitalizations
• 3,100 deaths
• 8 pediatric deaths, including 5 newly reported this week 💔

What’s driving this surge?

Most cases this season are linked to influenza A (H3N2)—specifically a newer strain known as subclade K.

At least 20 states are currently experiencing VERY HIGH respiratory illness activity, with 9 more states at HIGH levels.

The flu vaccine still remains one of the best tools we have to reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death—especially for children, older adults, pregnant people, and those with chronic medical conditions. This remains true despite suboptimal coverage of the currently surging Influenza A(H3N2) subclade K strain.

If you or your child haven’t been vaccinated yet, now is still a good time.

Protection today is better than none at all. 🛡️

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

For the second year in a row, the US has surpassed 25,000 whooping cough cases — another sign of the risks of falling vaccination levels.
