It’s a new year! 🎉
Goals are flying around — gym plans, family time, new restaurants… and for some people: health insurance 🩺

If you’re wondering what you can enroll in right now, here’s the breakdown 👇

✅ Medicaid: Sign up now or whenever if you meet income + residency status (lawful permanent resident)

✅Private / Commercial Insurance: You can go to the Connect for Health Colorado website and enroll in a plan by JANUARY 15th

🚨You can sometimes enroll in private insurance outside of this time if you have a qualifying life event. (HINT: Getting sick/injury is not a qualifying life event.)

✅Medicare Advantage: You can switch Medicare Advantage plans, disenroll from an Advantage Plan, add a drug plan from now until March 31st

🚨You might be able to qualify for certain Special Enrollment Periods

If you don’t qualify for Medicaid or Medicare, and you miss open enrollment to purchase private insurance, you might qualify for a discount programs to take care of your health needs

🏡 Karis Community – supportive living for adults with severe and persistent mental illness
💜 The Dolores Project – shelter + permanent supportive housing for women experiencing homelessness
🌍 African Leadership Group – uplifting immigrant families through education, leadership, and economic opportunity

✨ Annual Open Enrollment is Around the Corner! ✨

From October 15 – December 7, you can review your Medicare coverage and make changes for 2026.

🗓️ Changes made during Annual Open Enrollment will take effect on January 26th

Here are the switches you can make:

➡️ Advantage Plan to Advantage Plan
➡️ Advantage Plan to Original Medicare
➡️ Original Medicare to Advantage Plan
➡️ Add a Part D Drug Plan

⚠️ This is the only time of year that people with Original Medicare can make these changes! Don’t miss it.

💌Home health and home care are commonly seen in healthcare transitions. They key different? “Skilled” care. Here’s a Quick Look.

1. 🩺 HOME HEALTH

✅Requires a doctor’s order

✅Provides a SKILLED NEED — care from a licensed medical professional (eg. PT, OT, SLP, RN)

✅Aims to improve or stabilize a specific medical condition (eg. infection, weakness, wound)

✅Is typically covered by insurance

2. 🛏️HOME CARE

✅ Supports activities of daily living considered non-skilled (eg. bathing, feeding, dressing, housekeeping)

✅Is paid out-of-pocket or by some state programs, but not by insurance

✅ Can provide companionship and transportation

✅…Is often what families seek when living at home becomes harder!

💡Choosing the right type of care is key to a smooth transition — we’re here to help do that.

🎨 So keep celebrating those personal skills! Insurance may not cover them, but don’t hang up the violin just yet!
