At UCLH - University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, hundreds of young patients undergo radiotherapy treatment for cancer each year.

We’re raising funds to refurbish the unit where the radiotherapy takes place - transforming it into a space filled with comfort, colour, and reassurance for every child who walks through the doors.

This project will cost £150,000, and with the support of our amazing community, we know it's within reach.

Yesterday was - learn more about our appeal to improve the radiotherapy unit at UCLH - University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for children like Cody 💜

https://www.uclhcancerfund.org.uk/appeals/childrens-cancer

“Children having treatment for spend so much of their precious childhoods in hospital it’s really important the spaces are inviting, accessible, and a place where they can be children.”

Cody was diagnosed in 2023 with a stage four Germ Cell Tumour. He's had nine different chemotherapy treatments and is currently undergoing six weeks of at UCLH.

Cody’s mum, Shona told us: “The treatment, care and staff at UCLH - University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been brilliant. He loves coming in and spending time in the playroom, and it’s really important that he looks forward to it. It helps to calm him before treatment.

"But the treatment space is very clinical, and the children’s areas need improvements."

With your support, we want to completely refurbish the children’s spaces in the unit into a welcoming, child-friendly space.

We were delighted to welcome the Woerner-Peacock family to UCLH - University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on following their generous support for our Children's Cancer Appeal, with UCLH Charity. During their visit, they met with staff including Dr Yen-Ching Chang (far left), one of the team members who treated their son Ruben since 2016 and shared why they chose to support the appeal.

Tobias Woerner and Rachel Peacock’s son Ruben underwent radiotherapy at UCLH 31 times, as well as multiple surgeries and cycles of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was nine years old.

They said: “As a family who have first-hand experience of the severe challenges which come with radiotherapy for children, we fully understand the importance of a harmonious and less stressful environment. Looking back, radiotherapy was definitely the hardest part of Ruben’s treatment, which is why we want to help alleviate the trauma other children have to go through."

"Today Ruben is a young man, living a full and happy life, attending university. We would wish that this could be possible for every child going through cancer treatment. We would also like to thank the staff who looked after him so well, they were incredible, and we are so grateful for all they did to help us.”

Thank you John, and your fellow members of Cheshunt Golf Club! 🏌

John got in touch with us last year with the news that he had been elected to Captain at the golf club, and had chosen the Cancer Fund as their new charity of the year, following his treatment for cancer here at UCLH - University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Having hosted a series of events throughout the year, they have raised an incredible £2,000 to support people with cancer at the hospital, and the staff who care for them - thank you so much to everyone involved, we couldn't do it without you!

UCLH has recruited the first participant to a new study testing an investigational combination of therapies in patients with advanced lung cancer.

The global study, known as BNT324-01 and sponsored by BioNTech SE, is testing the investigational drugs BNT324 and BNT327 in patients with advanced lung cancer. BNT324, is a ‘targeted chemotherapy’ designed to target a protein called B7-H3, which is found in large amounts in many cancer cells and deliver the chemotherapy directly to the cancer. The other drug, BNT327, is a form of immunotherapy, designed to block particular proteins which play a role in immune control and the formation of blood vessels that can feed cancer cells.

UCLH medical oncologist Martin Forster (pictured), who is the UK Chief Investigator on the trial, said: “Despite recent improvements in treatment, the proportion of patients with advanced lung disease living beyond two years in still far too low and we are in desperate need of new drugs to improve outcomes for our patients. Both of these investigational drugs are very innovative, and we hope they can be safely given together. As they work against the cancer in different ways, we hope they will complement each other and have a much bigger anti-cancer effect when combined.”
