🛑 Food‐safety alert: keep your fridge and freezer safe
The CDC reports that despite recent recalls, illnesses linked to a multistate outbreak of Listeriosis (caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes) are still being identified — including 7 new illnesses, 6 new hospitalizations, and 2 deaths.
Here’s what you need to know (especially if you’re a busy parent, an adult managing chronic illness, or caregivers of older family members):
✅ Check for recalled foods — Review the recall list from the CDC and your grocery stores; do not consume any recalled items.
✅ Clean your fridge and freezer — Listeria can survive in refrigeration and can spread to other foods and surfaces.
✅ Be alert to symptoms — If you’ve eaten a recalled food and develop symptoms (fever, muscle aches, tiredness, headache, stiff neck, confusion), contact your healthcare provider.
⚠️ Higher risk groups — Pregnant women, older adults (65+), and people with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable.
