The Ability Crew is an animated comedy web series created by David Graber, and is about a rag-tag group of twelve pirates from around the world who have disabilities.
The Ability Crew are not your typical rum-drunk bloodthirsty thieving pirates. Together they go on wild adventures across the high-seas, discovering hidden treasures, helping others and also helping themselves along the way. They are led by Captain Abel, a cool-headed surfing Koala, who tries to understand and support everyone in his crew and beyond. Did we mention they’re all animals too?
The aim of the series is to break down the stigma attached to those with a disability. The Ability Crew shipmates may each have a disability, but they still can be pranksters or artists or flirts. They all have a disability, and that is a part of who they are, but they are all so much more than that.
Many members of the Ability Crew also utilise assistive technology to support themselves. Educating the audience on the real-world assistive technology options available to people living with a disability is another key goal with the series.
