Preventative Diverticulitis Checklist Checklist to avoid Diverticulitis attacks based on SCIENCE & MEDICAL STUDIES....not baseless speculation, wivestales or scapegoating like most forums.

4 years since last major attack. I attribute it to my general checklist & collagen, water, exercise, heathy biome and weight loss.

Collagen is crucial in healing tears and reducing scar tissue

Guys I really want to plug something here.

I am now 4 years past at attack

You all have probably seen my checklist but I also want to really plug the importance of sea salt flushes & drinking bone broth.

As many of you know I'm a big proponent of a sea salt flush. The flush effectively gets rid of everything in your system particularly when you do it several days in a row. It's a great way to flush out. bacteria. But... After a few days of fasting, the sea salt flush also has the advantage of allowing you to eat a little bit more lean protein & green vegetables to keep you from getting too weak.

I would wake up very early and I would sea salt flush ... This basically turned my stool into a liquid and made it much, much easier to pass without pain. But it also allowed me to get crucial nutrients into my body to help heal.

After I would flush everyday I would drink at least 1 or 2 cups of bone broth. It has a lot of collagen and as a result of that it helps to heal the scar tissue.

I have read other anecdotal articles from people who have had various intestinal problems and attributed a lot of healing to the bone broth.

There are a couple of exceptions that are worth noting. If you have cancer or if you are in some form of cancer treatment it might be a good idea to avoid it. This is something you and your doctor will have to discuss. And with all of my posts it is important to remember that I'm NOT a doctor but I do have some background in medical research and analysis.

I've heard back from a lot of folks who have suffered from diverticulitis and have started to introduce the sea salt flush with great success. And I've heard back from a lot of folks who have healed pretty quickly because of the bone broth. There are a number of companies that are producing powder form as well as liquid.

These days I make a point to try and have at least 1 or 2 cups per week.

Fasting-mimicking diet holds promise for treating people with inflammatory bowel disease, a new study finds. A clinical trial shows reduction of inflammation in humans and in mice, the diet appears to reverse Crohn's and colitis pathology.

Weight. HUGE numbers of diverticulitis attacks are associated with belly fat. After losing 40lbs, I've haven't had so much as a twinge. The theory stems from gut alignment. Much like a sink drain or toilet drain pipes, of they are bent out of alignment, they don't work. In a human case, the colon -a muscle- is pushed and twisted out of proper alignment, particularly when we carry toilet much belly fat, eat too much or get constipated.

Simply-- gotta lose that gut.

Update.

I am adding a new one to the checklist. BELLY FAT

I have been researching and talking to a lot of folks who had attacks that stopped The overwhelming consensus seems to point to people who have lost significant belly fat There's no particular key to losing belly fat proper, you simply have to go on a diet

The operating theory is that the belly fat pushes the proper alignment of your large intestine, out of position. Odd movements or constipation can add or exasperate a trauma to the colon. In case after case that I listened to -people who had a gut, even a small one, were much more likely to suffer repeated attacks. After losing the weight-- their attacks stopped

This is NOT a scientific study and it needs more research but the correlation was uncanny. It was true with me too.

Welcome ! If you are new and you have friends that could use this checklist please feel free to copy and paste It's not copyrighted information ... I would be much more happy that people had some help.

And please feel free to repost the checklist

There are a few folks out there that are absolutely positive that they know everything about this issue .....as they still get continued attacks. Unfortunately we have to ignore people like that who continued to spin wives tales from the 19th century

It was through researching nutrition and talking to dietitians and nutritionists and reading countless medical journals and articles that I began to see the pattern. I have a lot of friends who are doctors who have adopted a similar list like this for their patients so it's pretty straightforward stuff and it's good for your body in general

I'm not a doctor so don't hold me to medical advice but this has worked for a lot of people and I think it might help you too

Hope everyone is well.

Update *edit* on dealing with impending attack. I was reviewing some posts and felt need to clarify.

When you feel an attack or funkiness going on, IMMEDIATELY stop eating.

Fasting is a VERY powerful tool and helps your immune system kick in significantly. Many studies have shown this. Ive fasted for up to a week. My fiance fasted for a month after an illness once. You get used to it. Gives your guts a rest and immune system time to kick in.

Many people opt for broth soup-- rather I prefer chicken BONE broth...not just broth, BONE broth. The bone broth has excellent anti-inflammatory properties, while offering important protein.

Stay away from anything sugary or bready, crackers (starchy carbs) because they are fundamentally sugar

Also avoid kombacha and kefir ( which are normally fantastic for you) until the pain or tenderness passes.

So, water and BONE broth.

Of course-- although I research this stuff constantly, you know Im not your doctor-- but these are generally recommended steps by many docs, dietitians, nutritionists, etc.

The summary: high fiber may not be the golden goose...rather microbial biome seems key. This doesn't erase the need to be regular or to avoid f***l stagnancy and inappropriate biome population.

In other words-- stay away from breads, crackers, sugar, soda, fatty, greasy, fried ...eat lean protein and fresh vegetables and fruits.
