The Mermaid Doc

The Mermaid Doc A Southern California native, and the oldest of 22 grandchildren, she has always been a natural caregiver and enjoys seeing people experience total wellness.

Aquatic therapy plus regenerative natural medicine offered by Dr. Michelle Mohawk, DC chiropractor with over 20 years experience in the field of water therapy and holistic medicine. Dr. Michelle Mohawk received her medical training at Southern California University of Health Sciences, earning her Doctorate of Chiropractic degree in 2005, followed by a 2 year post-graduate Residency in Radiology/Diagnostic Imaging. Dr. Mohawk graduated from UC Berkeley in 2000. Her honor’s thesis, which she researched for her bachelor’s degree, was on stress and its manifold effects on the mind and body. Her love for fitness and the outdoors led her to pursue advanced training in the field of aquatic physical rehabilitation in a non-impact water environment. Dr. Mohawk is one of few Chiropractors in the United States with an expertise in aquatic rehabilitation. She develops customized aquatic rehabilitation programs, helping patients overcome a multitude of injuries both in the pool and out, while reducing physical stress and tension on the body. Dr. Mohawk is also proficient in a variety of soft tissue therapy techniques, including a unique therapeutic Aquatic Massage in the pool or spa. She advocates an integrated approach to care, working with other health care providers to comprehensively address the health care needs of each patient. When not in the office, Dr. Mohawk enjoys spending time with her extended Italian-Hawaiian family, traveling, and relaxing at the beach.
* Note: The doctor's name was changed from McLafferty to Mohawk after her marriage in 2018. Specialties
Hands-on, gentle chiropractic adjustments of the spine and extremities, along with manual spinal traction. Dr. Mohawk integrates her neuromusculoskeletal knowledge with specific soft tissue techniques to compliment the treatment protocol. Neuro-muscular massage and myofascial release techniques (MRT) assist in tissue healing. Full body recovery and wellness is also enhanced through active care - implementing aquatic rehabilitation as well as land-based functional training into the treatment process. http://voyagela.com/interview/meet-aqua-care-studio-city/

Some of my greatest moments working for nearly 20 years in aquatics is witnessing wheelchair bound people walk again. Buoyancy is like magic. I look forward to being back in the water with clients and friends again very soon!!!

"Be like water. You are 75% water. Your brain is 85% water. How does water behave. If you want to experience water, don't grasp it. As soon as you grasp it, it eludes you. The only way to experience water is to immerse yourself in it. Become one with it. Don't try to defeat it. If you take a rock and let the water roll over it, the softest substance in the planet will take away anything that is hard. It will always triumph. Be soft. The sea is the strongest force on the planet because it stays low and all of the rivers come back to the source. Practice radical humility and everything will come to you."
