Often, our participants struggle with anxiety, deep sadness, and a sense of powerlessness over their lives.
Of course, many strategies contribute to alleviating these challenges, but the first one I always recommend is spending time in nature.
Lord Byron, a poet and satirist from 1788 to 1824, described it best.

“There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society where none intrudes,
By the deep Sea, and music in its roar:
I love not Man the less, but Nature more”

As often as you can, sit by the sea, walk in the forests, breath it all in. If you are a Support Worker, encourage your participant to enjoy this free and soothing experience.

In the last two weeks, I have met two NDIS participants who have faced additional challenges due to subpar service delivery, their providers appearing to prioritize profit over people, resulting in unethical practices like overcharging and disrespectful behaviour.

I would like to acknowledge how hard that is.

We know you are trusting us with your very personal selves and when providers let you down, it erodes your trust in all providers and makes your life that much harder. It is wrong.

Let's work together to advocate for quality, ethical, and person-centred support.

My passion for supporting individuals with borderline personality disorder ignited during my second year of Psychiatric Nursing training. Witnessing the discrimination and pain inflicted by hospital staff who lacked understanding was a catalyst for action.

Despite progress, sadly, prejudice persists.

Through our NDIS support service, we can offer a safe space for individuals with BPD, providing compassionate, positive, non-judgmental support and advocating for your needs within a system that often fails to understand.

If you have an NDIS Plan and require excellent support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Often when our participants come to us, they cannot imagine a better life, and, without such an image, why put in effort with the strategies we bring?

After developing trust with you so you know we can be relied on to walk our talk and support rather than judge, our next job is to encourage you to dream, to imagine Better.

And we’ll work with you to achieve that better.

Oh, and, you'll have the same support workers for at least 12 months if you like them. Having consistent support workers fosters trust and helps you thrive in daily life.

Part of my job is to do risk assessments for each new participant who accepts us as their Service Provider. I have been asked how we “…deal with people who self-harm” in the risk space.

“We believe in the power of positive relationships and support. By fostering trust and understanding, we empower our participants to make positive choices. While we cannot control external factors, we can create a space where individuals feel valued, heard, and hopeful. Through empathy, encouragement, and a focus on strengths, we work together to build resilience and promote well-being.”

I received an email yesterday from a participant who’s needs for support have decreased as her healing journey has increased over the time we have worked together.

“I meant it when I said where I’m at today has so, so much to do with you and I’ll always be extremely grateful for the time and effort you’ve put into helping me.”

How cool is that! 😊 I feel so privileged to have been part of her journey and honestly…this is why we at Connected Inc NDIS do this job!

Hey all,

My name is Leesa, and I am the Manager of a small, registered NDIS Support Service providing Best Practice Support for folks experiencing the challenges of living with a disability. We are part of the Connected Inc charity (with the best Op Shop in Brisbane 😊…see https://www.connectedinc.org.au/ ).

Our aim in creating this page is to simply let you know who we are and what we do.

We are dedicated to supporting people through the challenges disability may bring them in their day to day lives so they can explore their own unique potential, be empowered to overcome limitations, and, to have moments of laughter and maybe even joy…that which balances out the harder parts of life.

We have a fantastic small team of genuinely good people who are trained in all aspects of disabilities, are kind, respectful and committed to doing the best job possible in supporting you the way you want to be supported. Oh, and we come with references!

I will be putting posts up here regularly about our services and related information around disability, NDIS and links to cool ‘life’ info that can be worth learning about.
