*Update on Angel
Three weeks or so ago we got to the barn to clean stalls and Angel was showing signs of pain. She had just eaten, drank, peed and pooped showing us it was not colic and had great gut sounds. Her temp was normal both times taken and the next morning when rechecked. My gut told me it was a hard heat cycle. She was given banamine and we moved Aspen from the stall next her so Willow was beside her and she has been fine since. I took several videos that night and sent them to the vet who came out and did a full repo sonogram and full exam. ( After the rearing videos she was seen by our other vet when the minis had their appointment ) Dr. Hailey shared she had seen several other mares in the week prior, the same time the video was taken, with similar heat symptoms that may have been caused by the ups and downs in the weather but she also felt, given Angel's history with hard heat cycles year round, she is dealing with a hormonal imbalance. She feels the video was taken while she was releasing an overly large follicle. We've upped her magnesium and added smart pack mare calm to her am feeding along with the herbs she has been on daily. We feed a grain and soy free diet as well. ( I am very conscious about how I feed my herd especially my mares ) Since this video she has been back to in my pocket, riding with connection, sweet and loving girl.
Has anyone experienced a mare with similar heat symptoms? If so I'd love to get any tips for how you navigated helping her find physical comfort as well as preventative measures. I am trying to avoid regumate, using it as a last resort.( I do have a bottle on hand )
*Ignore the man behind the curtain that's just my husband terrified she was coming thru the wall while he was cleaning Aspen's stall
