I've been stuck to my desk lately, gradually collapsing under the pressure of bid-writing and disconnection so yesterday was a breath of air. I got out of the office!
First I met my brilliant business partner Joy Goddard for a catch up and a highly productive though technologically challenging zoom with the incredible Grassroots Su***de Prevention. This was followed by 'Mother Tongue, Motherhood and Mental Health: A Mulitlingual Film Screening' at Ealing Project. This was a moving experience hearing from people from minoritised communities about their experiences in the perinatal period and the support they got from the West London Perinatal Mental Health Service, which sounded very proactive, compassionate and flexible, including around language needs. Hearing from the panel of experts by experience was incredible, and from the amazing Sandra Igwe of The Motherhood Group (pictured) really inspiring. A bonus was bumping into my long term buddy Angela Caulder who I don't see nearly enough of.
Next I travelled to the home of activist and artist Tony Loftus who introduced me to an amazing woman, Gloria Howard, who is doing incredible work around trauma in adults and children. We really hit it off, have lots of synergies in our work, and I hope we can collaborate on a few things in the future. This was all rounded off by a fantastic home cooked meal with the Loftus family, quick bus home and Celebrity Race Around the World!
I've dropped a lot of names because all these people are hugely inspirational and help make me who I am and I thank each one for that.
Today and tomorrow is back to the desk but next week I'm looking forward to travelling to Cambridge to deliver a course and link up with my gorgeous cousin Helen Atkinson who I haven't seen for a year.
Note to self: Get out more, it's good for you!
