Dr Abhishek Kulkarni, Head: Pediatric & Adolescent Endocrinology T2T Hormone Clinics India spoke on benefits of CSII- Insulin Pump therapy & patient selection criteria with inputs of his unit experience at the Insulin Pump Symposium of the 44th Annual Conference of the International Society of Pediatric & Adolescent Diabetes 2018. ISPAD is the single largest conglomerate of physicians caring for children with all forms of diabetes mellitus globally. The message “ Insulin pump therapy remains the current most physiologic form of insulin replacement therapy for children with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus “ Insulin pump therapy needs on going intense patient & family training mandating the presence of a multidisciplinary team to provide contemporary standards of care. Congenital Hypothyroidism Action Plan was launched yesterday at SRCC Children's Hopsital Mumbai. An initiative of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), the Action Plan aims to promote the cause of newborn screening for Congenital Hypothyroidism, the single most important preventable cause of intellectual disability till date

The Program was inaugurated by Dr Santosh Soans, President IAP, Dr Digant Shastri, President Elect IAP Dr Bakul Parekh Senior Pediatrician, Dr Purna Kurkure Medical Director SRCC Children's Hopsital along with eminent Pediatric Endocrinologist team members at a gathering of nearly 100 eminent Paediatricians of the city of Mumbai. Dear All

Yesterday, my patient baby Risha Ammara became the first Indian patient ever with congenital leptin deficiency to be initiated on treatment with recombinant leptin at the Adenbrooks Hospital, Cambridge, UK, presently the worlds largest centre for treatment of this disorder

I am delighted to have diagnosed this child in Mumbai, be a part of the treating team here at Cambridge and subsequently look after the baby when she moves back to India. I wish to thank Prof Sadaf Farooqi, Consultant and an exemplary researcher in this field at the Cambridge University for the assistance & opportunity to collaborate on this Herculean task.

During my present trip to Cambridge, I have managed to coordinate a collaboration for the treatment of this disorder in India as well and also on the genetic diagnosis of a few of other rare Pediatric Endocrine Disorders with other researchers as well

I am sharing the historic photograph of the treating team & the patient with her family and the first reaction of the parents

I am glad that Child Hormone Foundation was able to assist this family belonging to a difficult socio-economic strata receive the appropriate diagnosis & the best possible treatment for this extremely rare & difficult disease

Baby Risha Ammara became the first Indian baby with congenital leptin deficiency to have receieved treatment this morning at the Adenbrooks Hospital, Cambridge. Child Hormone Foundation is proud & happy to be assisting the patient's family for the treatment of this rare genetic endocrine disorder. Child Hormone Foundation ( Regd. No. E-31385 ( Mumbai) ) is an organisation floated to promote clinical research and academic activities in pediatric endocrinology & enhance patient care for children with hormonal disorders. One of the objectives the foundation wishes to achieve is assisting in the treatment of needy children with hormonal disorders.
In addition to the significant medical & emotional stress associated with chronic disorders like type 1 diabetes mellitus, endocrine cancers, disorders of s*x development, disorders of puberty and chronic metabolic insufficiencies etc the cost of good health care including medications & tests are still beyond the reach of the weaker sections of the society
One of the prime objectives of the foundation is to assist in provision of necessary drugs, provide opportunities for consultation with specialists & arrange for necessary tests for some of these needy children on a periodic basis as indicated.
We are constantly in need of financial & logistic support to fulfil our objectives and we take this opportunity to ask you to be join us in this endeavour
