This post (from Kim- Brock’s mom) is long overdue, but is so important. Friends make this world great. Remarkable. Bearable.
They say it takes a village to raise a child, which I believe wholeheartedly. Over the decades my friends and family have supported me and my kids in so many ways. The list has been endless- they babysat, drove them to games, made snacks, had sleepovers, campouts, and then… provided a loving place to fall when I didn’t think I ‘d survive Brock’s death.
The years since that day have cemented that belief, as those precious friends - and so many more - have helped create a legacy of love and lives saved in Brock’s memory.
They have been on the Project Brock Society board, become friends from around the world, have helped at schools, became CPR instructors, helped haul equipment around, brought me snacks and made me suppers, reached out with messages from afar, participated in fundraisers, and lifted my spirits when I was super sad, frustrated or disheartened.
Although this post celebrates all you amazing people, a beautiful example is Bonnie- who my kids still call ‘auntie’. She babysat my kids, took our homeless goldfish, held play dates, birthday parties and baby showers, and supported Brock and Billy’s memorable video efforts with their friends for a hilarious school project. More recently, she helped with gathering research data, facilitating Cardiac Crash training in schools and donated enough to buy a set of manikins, skill guides and AED trainers. 🥰
Every day I am grateful for this world village and its extraordinary, loving citizens. Thank you for the profound gift of you in my journey.❤️
