District Health Society South Andaman - National Health Mission Implementation of the activities of National Health Mission to improve health facilities in the South Andaman District

Recognizing the importance of Health in the process of economic and social development and improving the quality of life of our citizens, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India has launched the National Rural Health Mission in the year 2005 as vision to carry out necessary architectural correction in the basic health care delivery system. The Mission adopts a synergistic approach by relating health to determinants of good health viz. segments of nutrition, sanitation, hygiene and safe drinking water. It also aims at mainstreaming the Indian systems of medicine to facilitate health care. To implement the NRHM program in A&N Union Territory State Health Society has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary A&N Administration and at District level District Health societies has been constituted under the Chairmanship of respective Deputy Commissioners and established the office of District Programme Management Unit (DPMU) in the premises of District Office. An Awareness Camp was organized by the Doctors of PHC Tushnabad at Government Senior Secondary School, Tushnabad, on 16th October 2025, focusing on key public health topics such as Breast Cancer Awareness 🎗️ and CPR Techniques ❤️‍🩹.

The session featured an informative talk on Breast Cancer 🎀, emphasizing early warning signs, the importance of self-examination, and timely diagnosis.

A live demonstration on CPR Techniques đź«€ was conducted to educate students on emergency response and the crucial role of bystanders in saving lives.

A quiz competition 📝 was also organized to reinforce learning and assess the students’ understanding of CPR procedures.

In addition, a poster-making competition 🎨 was held on the theme of Ayurveda Day 🌿, encouraging students to creatively express the importance and relevance of traditional systems of medicine.

The event witnessed active participation from students and teachers 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫 and significantly contributed to raising awareness on both modern and traditional health practices.

The Poshan Maah programme was held at Daya Sagar Hall, Prothrapur, aimed at promoting awareness on nutrition and healthy eating habits. A health talk was delivered highlighting the importance of the Poshan Maah initiative and its role in improving community nutrition. The recipes prepared by local women were checked and appreciated, with emphasis on incorporating foods rich in millets, iron, protein, and calcium. The ICDS Programme Officer, Councillor, and CDPO also addressed the gathering and spoke on the significance of Poshan Maah.

An awareness camp was organized on 15th October 2025 at the Namunaghar Anganwadi Centre under PHC Tushnabad, focusing on key public health issues including Breast Cancer, CPR Techniques, Tuberculosis (TB), and promoting a to***co-free lifestyle.

The event commenced with a warm welcome and introductory remarks by Shri Madan Singh, Health Educator, who greeted the participants and dignitaries and outlined the agenda for the day.

Dr. Shaheen Salamat delivered an informative session on Breast Cancer, emphasizing the importance of early detection and regular self-examination.

Dr. Varsha explained and demonstrated basic CPR techniques, highlighting the crucial role of timely bystander intervention during emergencies.

Mr. Madan Singh also raised awareness as part of the ongoing To***co-Free Youth Campaign. He explained the harmful effects of to***co and encouraged participants to adopt a to***co-free lifestyle, aligning with the theme of World No To***co Day.

Shri Dilip Kumar (STS–NTEP) delivered a short but impactful talk on TB prevention and emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

A major highlight of the event was a powerful and engaging skit performed by the Police Entertainment Team from the A & N Armed Police Force, effectively conveying key messages on TB prevention, early symptom recognition, stigma reduction, and the importance of timely medical care.

The program was conducted under the supervision of Dr. V. Kaleshwar, Medical Officer In-Charge, PHC Tushnabad, and witnessed active participation with a total of 60 attendees.
