This Spring Break, consider GETTING OUTSIDE! 🍃☀️💦

There are abundant resources for our nervous systems to be discovered outside: sunshine, movement, colors, smells, wind, and more sensory goodness! Read above just how nature regulates the nervous system and for fun ideas to reduce screen time and increase outside time this month.

Therapists talk a lot about self-compassion, because it really is that important.

Your brain responds to self-compassion the same way it does to compassion from others.

Research shows that when we treat ourselves with compassion, especially in moments of difficulty or stress, we actually grow. Self‑compassion helps us learn from mistakes, bounce back with resilience, and build the mental strength to move forward with confidence.

Self‑criticism might feel productive, but science suggests it actually holds us back. Self‑compassion, on the other hand, is the secret to greater resilience, emotional strength, and long‑term well‑being.

Self compassion is a skill that can be learned. It involves facing mistakes, insecurities and challenges with three mindsets:
1. Self-kindness: You are worthy of the same understanding and support you offer others.
2. Common humanity: All humans make mistakes.
3. Mindfulness: Noticing your emotions and honor their presence.

How are you practicing self-compassion today?

Check out February’s book of the month for families! This sweet story is about showing and sharing love with those who make our lives special. 💕
Read with your kids, then use these processing questions for deeper discussion:

1. How did Cornelia use the hearts?
2. Who would you send a heart to and what would you like to say on the heart?
3. What are some special ways to love and celebrate animals and our pets?
4. What are some other ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day other than Valentine’s cards?

Happy reading!

Parental love is one of the most powerful forces we can experience in this life. And brain science shows us why!

Children who experience consistent nurture from a caregiver during early childhood have been shown to develop bigger hippocampi in the brain. The hippocampus is responsible for much of our memory, stress management, and learning capacity.

Love and nurture not only feel good to kids, it shapes their brain for the better! If you’re a parent or caregiver who is worn down and discouraged, wondering if what you do really makes a difference…. take heart.
The love you give your children every day is strengthening their long-term well-being.

We have two Marriage Intensive options for couples looking to take their relationship to the next level and invest in deep relational work. We offer an offsite Retreat Intensive, now located at Camp Hideaway in Spicewood, TX! For those wanting to stay close to home, we also have our Austin Area, three day intensive.

These Relational Care Intensives are structured, focused opportunities for deeper healing. Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️

As we celebrate love today and every day, remember that love and connection are a remarkable blend of biology, chemistry, and human experience, revealing just how deeply the heart and brain are intertwined. Love changes over the course of a relationship, ideally becoming more stable, dependent, and consistent as it is tested my trials and time. This is not bad; it’s on purpose.

If you’re looking for the heightened passion and excitement you once felt in your relationship, allow hope and curiosity to give you a new perspective. Maybe your brain is opening a path to a more enduring kind of love.

Happy February, the Love Month! This month we’ll be talking all about love: romantic love, self-love, parental love and more.

Did you know you have a “love hormone”? Oxytocin is the chemical that causes us to feel bonded to others. Many activities and experiences release oxytocin. When we are lacking in feeling loved, we can choose to engage in these habits to increase our own sense of connectedness and invite others into connection, too! When relationships are mutually satisfying and people seek to understand each other, love chemicals get flowing, just as God intended!

Which of these activities might you engage in more this week, to increase yours and others’ neural pathways for connection?

This week we recognize the fourth candle of Advent: love. 🕯️

Noel Cho, LPC reminds us of the deeper kind of love we experience in Jesus. A love that He displayed when He was born into our world, suffered as we suffer, died a death He did not deserve, and was resurrected by the same great power He offers us through the Holy Spirit. We pray you feel wrapped up in the warmth and glow of His love this Christmas season 💛

The Center for Relational Care provides counseling services for healing and change. We serve children, families, single adults, and married couples as well as provide trauma recovery therapy, especially for those seeking EMDR Therapy. We seek to bring hope and healing to broken relationships, wounded hearts, and struggling lives. Using biblical principles and sound counseling theory, we strive to help people deepen their relationship with God and others while gaining awareness about what’s standing in their way of experiencing more joy and meaning in life. As the flagship counseling center for “Intimacy Therapy,” CRC also uses its expertise to train counselors and pastoral leaders around the world in this counseling model that helps hurting people experience God’s presence, provision, compassion, and truth. Some of our clients choose to participate in the Accelerated Relational Care (ARC) Process.
