Yoga as Therapy

You may be wondering what Yoga as Therapy really is? Is all Yoga not a form of therapy? What is the difference between therapeutic practice?

Let me begin by saying I am both a certified Yoga Instructor and a Yoga Therapist. One is to lead groups of individuals through a series of yoga postures, breathing practices or meditation with minimal modifications for the class or group. While the later, Yoga Therapy, focuses specifically on the individual, to review medical history, current conditions and create a specialized program to meet the client’s needs and improve overall health, thus preventing illness or injury.

Generally speaking Yoga as Therapy is a guided practice to unit Mind, Body and Spirit, while supporting the entire body and includes working with the client’s team of health professionals.
