📢 Final Batch of Middle-Level Immunization Training
📍 Locations: Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Akontombra, and Bodi
📅 Dates: 11th – 15th November 2025
The last round of middle-level immunization training is scheduled to take place across the districts of Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Akontombra, and Bodi.
This training aims to strengthen the capacity of health personnel in vaccine delivery, cold chain management, demand generation, community engagement, and data reporting to enhance immunization coverage and quality.

At the opening session in Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, the Municipal Director of Health Services, . Mr. Oheneba Oppong Darko, warmly welcomed participants and encouraged active engagement throughout the sessions.
⏰ Participants are reminded to report early and contribute fully to the discussions. Together, we’re building stronger systems to improve immunization coverage and achieve EPI goals!
The training, focused on the Middle-Level Managers (MLM) course, aims to enhance the technical and managerial competencies of frontline immunization personnel to deliver effective and high-quality services. Participants include Disease Control Officers, Community Health Nurses, Midwives, Health Promotion Officers, Health Information Officers, and Public Health Nurses. The sessions are designed to be interactive and practical, equipping participants with skills in planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of immunization activities.

This initiative is critical to achieving EPI goals and improving immunization coverage among target populations.
All participants are encouraged to arrive on time and come prepared for interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and group discussions.

Western North Region Strengthens Immunization Services through Middle-Level Managers (MLM) Training from 27th August to 15th November 2025

The Western North Regional Health Directorate has launched a comprehensive 16-day capacity-building training for district and sub-district health staff under the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI). The training, focused on the Middle-Level Managers (MLM) course, aims to enhance the technical and managerial competencies of frontline immunization personnel to deliver effective and high-quality services.

Held across in all nine districts in the region, the training brings together over 600 health professionals, including Disease Control Officers, Community Health Nurses, Midwives, Health Promotion Officers, Health Information Officers, and Public Health Nurses. The sessions are designed to be interactive and practical, equipping participants with skills in planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of immunization activities. This initiative is critical to achieving EPI goals and improving immunization coverage among target populations.

The training was officially launched on 27th October 2025 and will run until 15th November 2025. It is led by the Deputy Director of Public Health, Dr. Kingsley Osei-Kwakye, with technical support from a national team headed by Madam Charlotte Okai. This effort marks a significant milestone in strengthening immunization systems in the region and ensuring that every eligible child receives timely and quality vaccines.

📍 Simulation Exercise Orientation – Strengthening Community Emergency Health Preparedness 📍
On 20th October 2025, the Regional Health Directorate organized an orientation session to launch preparations for a Simulation Exercise (SimEx). The session brought together 38 participants, including officers from the regional health directorate, Wiawso Municipal Health Directorate, Asawinso Hospital, environmental health officers, and community informants.

The session opened with a welcome address from Dr. Francis Boakye Takyi, District Director of Health Services (DDHS), Wiawso. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between health professionals and community informants in building resilient public health systems.

Dr. Kingsley Osei Kwakye, Deputy Director of Public Health (DDPH), outlined the purpose of the meeting and presented a detailed overview of the SimEx process and objectives. He stressed the need for preparedness and practical engagement in responding to public health emergencies.

Mr. Saibu Adama, Regional Emergency Operations Center Manager (REOCM), gave an insightful presentation on Event-Based Surveillance (EBS), highlighting its role in early detection and timely reporting of health threats. He also explained the different types of simulation exercises and their relevance to real-life scenarios.
The orientation concluded with an interactive discussion and a recap of the day’s activities, ensuring that all participants were aligned in their understanding and expectations for the upcoming exercise.

Big news for women's health in Sefwi Wiawso! Telecel Foundation and Mahama Cares have donated a cervical cancer diagnostic machine to the Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital, delivered through the Regional Director of Health Services (Dr. Paulina Clara Appiah), Nananom (Nana Yaw Nkrumah ll - Susumenete Chief), and the member of the Ghana Health Service Council (Nana Ofori Ahenkah ll). This life-saving equipment will boost early detection and treatment for thousands of women. A huge step forward in the fight against cervical cancer!

🎀 Breast Cancer Awareness at Essam Government Hospital 🎀

As part of activities marking this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Essam Government Hospital, under the leadership of the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ebenezer Ogoe, held a durbar on 16th October 2025 to sensitize staff and the community on breast cancer prevention and early detection. The initiative forms part of the hospital’s ongoing efforts to promote women’s health and encourage proactive screening practices within the Essam community.

The durbar brought together hospital staff, Queen Mothers, and community members, fostering an atmosphere of learning and unity. Dr. Ebenezer Ogoe and his team emphasized the importance of regular breast self-examination, early reporting of symptoms, and routine screening as vital steps toward reducing breast cancer-related deaths. The Queen Mothers also expressed their commitment to supporting awareness campaigns in their respective communities, reinforcing the need for women to speak openly about breast health.

In closing, Dr. Ogoe urged all participants to become advocates for early detection, stressing that breast cancer is treatable when detected early. He applauded the dedication of healthcare workers and community leaders who continue to play active roles in health education.
