The Missouri Home Care Union is seeking to unionize all home care workers in the state of Missouri. It is our mission to EDUCATE all workers about this scam perpetrated by this union to steal the hard earned wages of the Missouri home care worker. If their legislation passes, all home care workers will be FORCED to pay this "union" $216 per year. It will be an automatic fee forced upon them.
This "Union" wants all home care agencies to pay workers $15 per hour. Let's do the math for the Missouri Home Care Union since they seem to be unable to do so.
The current reimbursement rate for an hour a client receives care is $15.56 per hour. This is the amount the agency gets paid by the state of Missouri. So now we deduct $15 from that $15.56 and we are left with 56 cents per hour. Now, the agency also has to pay the employer part of the taxes. Social security tax 6.2%, medicare tax 1.45%, and Federal unemployment tax of .8%. Then we throw in state unemployment at 3.1%. We now add up all of these taxes and we get 11.55%. So we take that 11.55% times the $15 per hour, and we are now at $1.73 in taxes the employer must pay on top of that $15 per hour wage. Which comes to a total of $16.73.
Granted the individuals at the Missouri Home Care Union have no educational requirements for participation in their program, but basic math shows us that agencies will immediately start going in debt if their measure passes. They have left absolutely no funding to pay for the required Social Workers, Registered Nursing staff, Building and program overhead including payroll software, or even the stamps to send them their union dues.
Please do not let this "union" trick you into giving them your hard earned money. If any of their measures pass, it will put every home care agency out of business and will more than likely shut down home and community based services all together. The agency pays attendants directly based of what is reimbursed from the state minus operating costs.
This union is attacking agencies left and right. They fail to clearly communicate what the reimbursement rate is which is set by your legislature and governor. If you want to be paid more as an attendant then advocate for the increased reimbursement rates. Do not advocate to send agencies underwater so that some union can line their pockets with your hard earned money. They want your dues money. If they truly cared about the disadvantaged or their caregivers they would not ask for dues from the caregiver's wages but instead would ask for better reimbursement rates from the lawmakers.
