Hey y’all, it’s been a minute…
Though my presence on social media has changed over the past few years, my mission has not. Occupational therapy practitioners are uniquely positioned to navigate, support, and empower experiences of gender euphoria through participation and engagement in daily occupations. How? Well, occupations like dressing, grooming, hygiene, toileting, and bathing provide opportunities for gender expression. So what’s the issue? Whether it’s due to legislation, policies, and/or personal beliefs, opportunities for gender affirmation are not equitably supported or accessible. AOTA’s Policy E.15, Affirming Gender Diversity and Identity, emphasizes OTPs obligation to provide, educate on, and advocate gender affirming care.
I had the distinct pleasure of serving as a panelist on the panel for “We Need To Talk About Gender Affirming Care” alongside , , and .pelvic.health at the MA/RI state OT conference. Despite the noise, misinformation, and hate being spread across media, I want to remind you to focus on q***r joy and hope. We are here. We are not going anywhere. Every human deserves the right to feel safe, affirmed, and at home in their own body. When people tell us who they are, listen.
Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing more content on sexual health, gender affirming care, scholarship and advocacy. If yall haven’t heard yet, I have been selected as one of AOTF’s OT influencers for their challenge. I am really excited to highlight some of their work and how it aligns with my personal and professional mission.
Did y’all know they offer several scholarship for OT and OTA students?? Or that they have an scholarship? Stay tuned to learn more!
