If you’re interested in productivity techniques, you’ve likely come across one called Pomodoro: It’s a time management tool where you switch between 25 minutes of work and 5 minutes of break four times before taking a longer breakā±
What many people like about it is that you only have to commit yourself to 25 minutes of focused work.

The bad news is that it can keep you from finding productive and fulfilling Flow states. 😳

The key is to know when to use it. Check out our new YouTube video to find out more …

What do you think was the most felt feeling in our Western society last year? It’s actually so wide-spread that there’s a name for it: Languishing.

One year after Covid hit, an article by Adam Grant went viral pinpointing what many people felt like back then: A constant feeling of ā€œblahā€, stuck in a void of meaninglessness and stagnation - an experience called ā€œlanguishingā€.

Languishing was not only relevant back then though, it’s a state that accompanied many people’s lives before Covid and still does. Perhaps you know it from phases where you were a bit lost what to do next - after graduating for example - or from the winter months when it’s dark and cold outside and we spend more time at home.

Since languishing may also be confused with depressive episodes or actually be a precursor for depression, we should look closely at what we need to improve our mental well-being.

šŸ‘‰Ā In our new YouTube video, we’ll explain what languishing is, where to locate it at the mental health continuum and give practical tips to help you flourish again. (Find the link in our bio)

Importantly, if you feel you’d benefit from therapeutic guidance, don’t hesitate to accept help. In order to avoid waiting for months and instead get support when you need it, you can check out Calmerry: a platform for high quality online therapy with licensed therapists in different specialties. As part of the Flow Lab community, you can get 30% off your first month. All instructions are in the description below the video.

You think of freedom, purpose and fancy drip coffee in a light-flooded co-working space when talking about working in a start-up? Well, our co-founder Jonas shares the unadorned reality of the inglorious life of a start-up CEO.šŸ„“ā¬‡ļø

Imagine you’re building your own company: You have a vision, boundless motivation and the freedom to make your own decisions. šŸ™Œ

And then there are the things about being a start-up founder that most people don’t discuss: Self-doubt, financial instability, ā€œcover-image pressureā€ while experiencing rejection from potential investors.😐

There’s often a glorified image of a start-up founder that is upheld in our society and that shapes our expectations when founding a company. And this can strengthen a number of limiting beliefs - beliefs about how we have to be in order to live up to this image, up to a point where these beliefs paralyze us and cripple our motivation and productivity.

šŸ‘‰ In our newest YouTube video, our co-founder Jonas opens up about the mental and emotional challenges he is facing to remove stigmatization around mental health issues and allow our strivings to remain healthy and sustainable in the first place. (Link is in our bioā¤“ļø)

And even if you’re not a founder yourself, you’ll certainly get interesting insights on how to let go of limiting beliefs in this high performance culture.

Do you tend to feel bad about the open tasks on your to-do list and think that you could work harder?šŸ˜¬ā˜‘ļø

As a team working on bringing more productive Flow states into the world, it comes as no surprise that we’re big fans of productivity. But: Our mission is to increase sustainable productivity.ā˜ļø
For us, the Flow state is the answer as we’re able to unleash peak performance, while at the same time see anxiety, self-consciousness and the risk for burnout decrease when in the zone.

In this hustle culture though, so-called ā€œproductivity guiltā€ is quite common. A morning without a workout is wasted, the 10 minutes before your first meeting aren’t meant for doomscrolling, they should be used for meditation and a comfy evening on the couch does not happen without a tinge of bad conscience about the dirty dishes waiting for you in the kitchen.

šŸ‘‰ If you know productivity guilt yourself, check out our brand-new YouTube video and learn how to let go of it.

Here’s how professional athletes develop laser-like focus and avoid chokingšŸ‘‡

If you’re an athlete, you probably know these moments where you need your entire focus: for example, when attempting a free throw in basketball, when shooting a penalty kick, trying to throw a dart into the bull’s eye or during golf putting. You’re under a lot of pressure and perhaps feel a bit anxious too.

Sport psychologists point to an interesting strategy that shows great improvements in maintaining a steady focus and avoiding choking in the most stressful situations: The Quiet Eye.šŸ‘

For example, after training the Quiet Eye, basketball players’ free throw percentages have been found to have improved by an astonishing 23% after two seasons (Harle & Vickers, 2001).šŸ€

In our newest YouTube video, we’ll reveal what the Quiet Eye is and why it’s useful to train. (šŸ‘‰ Link in bio)

When was the last time you found yourself in an unmotivated slump, having a hard time to get yourself together and get started?šŸ™‡

How often do we intend to build new, healthy habits - we eat more wholesome food, set up a new sports routine, meditate and perhaps manage to do everything at once for a while.

But for some reason, the table turns at some point: We order take-away once on a busy day, we feel a bit under the weather and therefore postpone a training session or we get up on the wrong side of bed and skip a day of meditation - and what starts with one day, all too often accumulates into longer phases so that our freshly new routine collapses like a house of cards.😬

Don’t get us wrong here - it’s always important to take time for recovery and self-care. But these slumps we want to talk about often don’t actually feel restorative. Instead, we rather feel stuck in fatigue and unhappy about our situation.

In our new YouTube video, our Head of Content Eva shares her tips on how to overcome this apathy.šŸš€

Listen up dopamine addicts, here are 3 key decisions in your everyday life that you may always regret if you don’t get them right ā€¦šŸ„“

In a study from 2021, almost half of the American respondents (46%) reported spending time on their phones for 5 to 6 hours per day (this is the number that comes on top of work-related smartphone use). While being on the phone is certainly fun, this excessive use also comes at a cost … šŸ“±

If you think about it,
… how often do you start a project, but don’t find the motivation to finish it?
… how often do you interrupt what you’re doing to check your messages?
… how often do you automatically open Instagram or TikTok without even noticing it?

And if you take a step back for a moment: When you are a hundred years old and look back at your life, is this how you wanted to live it?

Our co-founder Jonas thought about the crucial moments in his life where he is tempted to unnecessarily and automatically seek dopamine and shares them in our newest YouTube video!
šŸ‘‰ Link in bio.

Let’s become more aware of the automatic habits that don’t really serve us so we can be more mindful in our phone usage and live a more self-determined life with more focus and motivation for the projects that matter most to us.šŸ™

Have you ever falsely believed that your phone was vibrating when, in fact, it didn’t? There’s a name for it …

For most of us, the phone has become such a central part of our lives that there’s rarely a situation where we don’t have it with us.

Our co-founder Jonas shares:

ā€œI feel like most of my constructed reality is happening on my phone: I only remember what I did on Tuesday when checking my calendar; recalling what I felt in a certain moment comes much easier when going through my pictures and these moments are much more vivid in my memory than the ones I do not have pictures from. And if I actually want to escape reality, then I’ll just open TikTok.ā€

The phone has become a part of us. And that’s why an interesting phenomenon is increasingly emerging: Our brain misinterprets sensory stimuli like a muscle twitch, for example, as a phone vibration. This is called ā€œphantom vibrationā€.

Not to be overdramatic, but if you sometimes think your phone was vibrating when it didn’t, this may be a sign of stress and even a harbinger of burnout (Chen et al., 2014).

Here’s all you need to know about phantom vibrations and how to break your phone addiction in our brand-new video. (šŸ‘‰ Link in our bio)

If you like our content, it would mean a lot to us if you give this video a thumbs up and share it with other phone addicts.šŸ’š
