New research on music therapy and pain management!

With an aim towards developing a model for music therapy services in emergency departments (ED), Dr. Susan Mandel and colleagues gathered information on patient satisfaction rates, benefits of music therapy services on ED patient stress and pain, and staff perceptions of music therapy for ED patients.

Although no significant differences in patient satisfaction rates were reported, the authors did find significant improvements in patient stress and pain levels following music therapy treatment. In addition, the majority of surveyed staff members stated that the music therapist’s work improved their own caregiving practices.
