Why reflexology? I became fascinated by reflexology after going for a reflexology treatment myself nearly three years ago. I left the treatment room feeling like I was walking on air; I felt relaxed yet rejuvenated, and was amazed how the therapist picked up on physical ailments in other areas of my body by only having contact with my feet! I decided to embark on a year-long Level 5 Reflexology Mastership course with Jubilee College; I was trained by David Wayte, a renowned Reflexologist and member of the Royal Society of Medicine. I qualified in September 2016 (see above picture) whilst 35 weeks pregnant with my second child, hence the delay in starting up my own Reflexology business. I am a member of a professional body - the Association of Reflexologists.
So what is Reflexology? Well, it’s a holistic therapy which involves the therapist using their fingers and thumbs to apply pressure to different areas of the feet (or hands if you prefer). These reflex areas correspond to all organs and systems of the body, encouraging healing and re-balancing of the entire body. Reflexology can boost circulation and reduce stress and anxiety, leaving you feeling relaxed yet also re-energised.
What happens during a treatment? During your first appointment, there will be a 15 minute consultation to briefly run through your medical history and find out what you hope to gain from your reflexology treatment. You will then be asked to remove your socks and shoes before being seated in the reclining chair and if desired, covered with a blanket to keep you feeling cosy. I’ll then use anti-bacterial wipes to cleanse my hands and your feet, before applying foot cream and beginning the treatment. There is a brief warm up routine to encourage you and your feet to relax, then I’ll start working through all the reflex points on the feet. During this time I will note down any imbalances detected so I can report back to you afterwards; please let me know if there are any areas of tenderness while I’m working on your feet as this can be a sign of imbalance too. If for any reason you do not want me to work on your feet, I am fully trained in hand reflexology too.
Please note if you suffer from any of the following conditions, unfortunately reflexology is not recommended: thrombosis, phlebitis, gangrene, unstable heart condition, or any contagious/infectious disease.
