Upcoming Autumn Classes at Happy Om Yoga Studio 🍂🤎

Myofascial Restore & Release:
A slower class to work with releasing deeper layers of tension held in the landscape of the body through Myofascial Release and an Embodied Yin/Movement journey, accompanied by sound, guiding you towards a more easeful state of being. A somatic body-based inquiry and exploration, through movement, massage & postures, into how the way that we think, feel and relate to ourselves & the world informs and shapes our fascia. Classes will be a mix of movement and stillness, sound and silence, using somatic practices to support the nervous system and facilitate a tensional release into the here and now of felt-sense awareness.

Sunday Sadhana Circle:
Let's come together for a morning of extended practice, with an emphasis on us practicing together in community. Expect embodied movement practices, such as yoga, somatics, shaking, and myofascial release, followed by a ceremonial cacao circle with time for reflection, integration and sharing. Our circle will included practices such as meditation, journaling and chanting, with opportunities to connect and share too.

Shake the Dust:
The last shake of the year. Shake the Dust is a ‘somatic release’ class that uses music and movement to facilitate the feeling and experience of release. In this practice, we use repetitive containers of high-intensity movements to build towards a physical & energetic release, explored within free movement. We pendulate between movement containers and releasing from them into free movement, alongside resting and resourcing ourselves.

Myofascial Release is back - Autumn Sunday Series 🍂🕯️

‘Release & Restore’ is a slower somatic class to work with releasing deeper layers of tension held in the landscape of the body through Myofascial Release and an Embodied Yin/Movement journey, accompanied by sound, guiding you towards a more easeful state of being.

Myofascial Release will be guided as a somatic body-based inquiry and exploration, through movement, massage & postures, into how the way that we think, feel and relate to ourselves & the world informs and shapes our fascia. By entering into relationship with ourselves through the living organism that is our fascial matrix, we can begin to understand and excavate that which has left its imprint on the body; a store and subsequent release that ripples through the entire matrix and architecture of our bodies and being.

Classes will be a mix of movement and stillness, sound and silence, using somatic practices to support the nervous system and facilitate a tensional release into the here and now of felt-sense awareness.

We are self-organising, living systems, constantly in relationship with and responding to our lived experience.

A somatic practice can be one of inquiry that fully acknowledges this; our aliveness, our interconnected nature and our inherent wisdom. It is our direct experience of life moving through us. A space to explore the aliveness within us and to recognise how we have been shaped and organised. Our responses to life expressed within us.

(Caveat: that’s not always easy or pleasant and can be extremely painful and confronting and is ground that should be tread lightly and with the care & support of a therapist where trauma is concerned; building resources, increasing capacity)

Through this practice, we can create the space and opportunity for noticing and recognising what lives within us - a pain or tension here, a dull ache there, spaciousness, fullness, separation, connection, pain, joy. The full spectrum of our experience, noticing and building our capacity for all of the possibilities to exist together.

Who are we? What does it all mean? And how can we make sense of it and ourselves as we enter into relationship with this information? Our body is a reflection of life, our mental & emotional worlds are expressed through the soma. What’s happening in the soma when we make space to recognise it - listening, sensing, feeling, receiving. It is our own living intelligence. A score of stories past and what lives with us here now in the present. And perhaps nothing is more powerful a source and insight than that.

Join me for GROW - a four night retreat in my homeland of the Scottish Highlands, where you can expect grounding yoga practices in a woodland tipi, walks in the forest or Cairngorm mountain hikes, dips in nearby rivers and lochs and woodland saunas 🌳

Retreats often are for me, a truly life-affirming experience; a reminder when the world feels cruel that there are good, kind, and loving people out there that share a peaceful collective vision. And that when we find ourselves in the right place, with the right people, we can be reminded of the abundance and beauty that exists as life when we let it GROW.

Just as nature shows us with the turn of each cycle (that of the moon, the seasons, the crops & the soil), our growth comes from our own period of decomposition. What we let go of and shed & release layers of ourself into the Earth, it is received as mineral rich compost for the soil, reabsorbed for our own growth, for the next cycle to begin.

Retreats are such a powerful portal to phases of growth, of becoming & unbecoming. And Spring is the perfect time after the fallow period of the Autumn/Winter to tend to our own becoming.

//tend// coming from the latin tendere: to stretch towards. Just as the first Spring flowers start to stretch towards the first light.

Shake the Dust - this Saturday at Happy Om Yoga Studio

A high impact somatic release class. Expect shaking, bouncing and repetitive muscle movements, with movements of freedom and release, rest and resourcing.

Think HIIT for hippies, meets ecstatic dance, meets somatic movement.

This weekend we will focus on the symbolism of the seasonal transition into Autumn, with a focus on our skin, old stories, and shedding.
