FREE LUNG FUNCTION TEST/SPIROMETRY on 17/11/2017
Delhi had emerged as the most polluted city in WHO's 2014 database, with a mean annual PM2.5 level of 153 mgm3.That number has come down to 122 in the latest report. However, the improvement may not be a fallout of action on air pollution but is likely to be the result of the way air quality data has been assessed this time.
Health costs of air pollution
Exposure to particulate matter for a long time can lead to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, lung cancer and heart attacks. The Global Burden of Disease Study for 2010, published in 2013, had found that outdoor air pollution was the fifth-largest killer in India and around 620, 000 early deaths occurred from air pollution-related diseases in 2010.According to a WHO study, 13 of the 20 most-polluted cities in the world are in India; however, the accuracy and methodology of the WHO study was questioned by the Government of India.

India
Until recently, India had more diabetics than any other country in the world, according to the International Diabetes Foundation, although the country has now been surpassed in the top spot by China. Diabetes currently affects more than 62 million Indians, which is more than 7.1% of the adult population.The average age on onset is 42.5 years. Nearly 1 million Indians die due to diabetes every year.
According to the Indian Heart Association, India is projected to be home to 109 million individuals with diabetes by 2035.A study by the American Diabetes Association reports that India will see the greatest increase in people diagnosed with diabetes by 2030.The high incidence is attributed to a combination of genetic susceptibility plus adoption of a high-calorie, low-activity lifestyle by India's growing middle class.

Prevention and control Dengue Fever

At present, the main method to control or prevent the transmission of dengue virus is to combat vector mosquitoes through:

preventing mosquitoes from accessing egg-laying habitats by environmental management and modification;
disposing of solid waste properly and removing artificial man-made habitats;
covering, emptying and cleaning of domestic water storage containers on a weekly basis;
applying appropriate insecticides to water storage outdoor containers;
using of personal household protection such as window screens, long-sleeved clothes, insecticide treated materials, coils and vaporizers;
improving community participation and mobilization for sustained vector control;
applying insecticides as space spraying during outbreaks as one of the emergency vector-control measures;
active monitoring and surveillance of vectors should be carried out to determine effectiveness of control interventions. DENGUE Series Part 1
WORLD
Dengue is the most rapidly spreading mosquito-borne viral disease of mankind, with a 30- fold increase in global incidence over the last five decades.. Almost half the world's population lives in countries where dengue is endemic
INDIA
Dengue virus was isolated in India for the first time in 1945. The first evidence of occurrence of dengue fever in the country was reported in 1956 from Vellore district in Tamil Nadu. The first dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) outbreak occurred in Calcutta (West Bengal) in 1963.
SEASONAL TREND
Every year, during the period July–November, an upsurge in the cases of dengue/DHF has been observed. The disease has a seasonal pattern; the cases peak after the monsoons and are not uniformly distributed throughout the year.

As breeding was more common in urban areas, the disease was observed to be mostly prevalent in urban areas. However, the trend is now changing due to socioeconomic and man-made ecological changes that have resulted in the invasion of mosquitoes into the rural areas

Dengue ranks as the most important, rapidly emerged mosquito-borne viral disease in recent years and is endemic in all continents. It has shown an increase due to various reasons – construction activities, lifestyle changes, deficient water management, improper water storage, stagnation of rain water in containers lying outside houses and practices leading to proliferation of vector breeding sites in urban, semi-urban and rural areas.
