Lets talk beans and kidney health. Are they good? Are they bad? The answer depends on YOU!

Beans are a great example of why a "kidney friendly" diet is different for everyone.

For KIDNEY DISEASE, beans are a WONDERFUL source of plant based protein to help slow the progression CKD. Plant protein sources have less protein, which lowers the work your kidneys have to do!

🍌Beans are fairly high in potassium. Some people with kidney disease may need to limit how much potassium they eat. BUT, even if you need to limit potassium, eating beans IN PLACE of meat at a meal can usually fit in a low potassium diet.

🥗For SOME TYPES of KIDNEY STONES, SOME beans may be too high in oxalate. However, not everyone with kidney stones needs to limit oxalate. And, not all beans are super high in oxalate.

Bottom line: Different people have different kidney health needs. This is why it is SO important to know your numbers, and work with your dietitian or doctor to know what is best for you!
