Syntax and morphology develop together! Sometimes we are so focused on morphemes that we push syntax down the road. In reality, we should be working on grammar and syntax much earlier than we think!
Students can successfully use syntactic structures (complex sentences, conjunctions, and sentence expansion) even if some morphemes are still developing (verb tense markers, plural -s, noun–verb agreement, etc.).
For example:
“Yesterday he go to the park because he want to play soccer.”
This sentence show important syntactic skills: time concepts, conjunction use, and clause structure, even though the morphology isn’t perfect.
Remember, grammar development doesn’t have to be sequential with one skill completely mastered before introducing another.
