New ATA Guidelines for differentiated thyroid cancer are available. The 2025 Guidelines offer guidance for management and updated recommendations on surgery, RAI, and follow-up.
1. Reclassification of NIFTP:
๐Non-invasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features has been reclassified.
๐Non-Invasive Follicular Thyroid Neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features: encapsulated, follicular growth, nuclear features, but no invasion, no necrosis, no papillae.
๐It is not classified as thyroid cancer anymore.
2. Pre-operation lab tests:
-TSH baseline
- TG
- anti-TG
- ultrasound
๐It is important to have a reference for follow-up after surgery
3. Imaging:
- ultrasound neck: always check for local staging and nodes
