The gut is no longer viewed just as a site for nutrient absorption; it is a primary endocrine organ.

The LPS Connection: Intestinal permeability (leaky gut) allows Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) endotoxins from gram-negative bacteria—to enter systemic circulation. This triggers metabolic endotoxemia, a primary driver of insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes. DOI: 10.2337/db07-1403

GLP-1 Production: Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) produced by fiber fermentation in the colon stimulate the secretion of GLP-1. Understanding the microbiome is essentially understanding one of the body's internal "Ozempic" mechanisms.

In a small study, children with DRE showed changes in their microbiome and metabolites that were linked to fewer seizures, particularly an increase in the bacteria that produce plasmalogen.

Behind the science and the certifications is a dedicated team of humans "wearing many hats." Our Managing Director, Jayne Bullen, shared a powerful reflection on our recent Ops planning session, and it perfectly captures the spirit of Nutrition Network in 2026.

Yesterday a few of us from our ops team at Nutrition Network brain stormed our planning for the year and also the many hats we wear in our lives and our work. We have a jam packed and fascinating year ahead with some Big projects, products and amazing trainings coming up, starting with the long anticipated Gut Health training.

Now, back to Hats! I wear many and I have realised I need to take some off lately as it was getting a little wild over her on my head with all of them.

Sometimes we get exactly the one perfect hat we first wanted and chose. Lucky and rare!

Mostly, we have to figure things out, work to find our perfect hat and also, change them a few times, take a few off and let go of several or many, throughout a career and lifetime. What we want to be sure of is that we are in the best possible fit for us and then, from there, make it work the best we can in the conditions we have :)

Looking forward to another year with the many extraordinary humans I get to work with, wearing our best possible hats for us.

Hats On! Let's Go!

Gut health does not announce itself with gut symptoms - https://bit.ly/3YvUl8B [Pre-Order New Course]

Dr Winters shared a striking personal example. Her husband has what many would describe as an ironclad digestive system—regular bowel movements, no IBS, no food reactions, no complaints. And yet advanced testing revealed significant intestinal permeability and metabolic disruption.

His symptoms didn’t show up in the gut. They showed up in the skin, the joints, and his mental health.

World Epilepsy Day is often marked by statistics: prevalence, seizure types, medication lists, and treatment gaps. But behind every number is a child, a family, and a question that refuses to go away:

Is there anything else we can do?
