Medical aid is governed by the Medical Schemes Act and Medical Insurance under the Short-term Insurance Act. MEDICAL AID is forced to offer you a basic package consisting of 270 diagnosies and 27 chronic conditions where Medical insurance can offer you whatever they want to based on a specific rand value for a specific procedure/event. AND THIS IS WHY MEDICAL AID COSTS MORE as the law forces it to cover MUCH more. A day in ICU costs minimum R5 000. C-section about R45 000 for our stay etc. Do your homework, understand the rules,exclusion and risks.
