My patients always ask what I actually do on the cruise ship? And I wish I could say it’s cocktails by the pool but the reality is very different. I’m responsible for over 5000 guest and crew’s health and wellbeing while they cruise to many remote ports with extended days at sea. Luckily I have a great team to support me including doctors, paramedics and nurses. As well of course as the ships Captain and Hotel general manager who we constantly liase with. As the Senior Doctor Im also responsible to ensure that we are in compliance with all the public health medical requirements and reporting. What kind of patients do we see at sea? Everything! From young to old, from trauma and emergencies to gp stuff with coughs and colds, it’s always something new coming through the doors. I will forever be grateful for my time spent as a Doctor at sea taking me to over 90 different countries and to every continent it really has been the greatest blessing and my biggest challenge!
