Advanced Health strives to be the industry leader in the provision of day surgery services through its network of day hospitals, inspiring confidence by focusing on the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective healthcare. Day hospitals are modern healthcare facilities providing short-procedure surgical services and diagnostic procedures which need to be performed in a sterile environment on a same-day basis. As a result of advanced surgical and anaesthetic technologies, more than 60% of all surgical interventions can be performed on a same-day basis in day hospitals. Day hospitals are modern, compact and equipped and staffed to render same-day procedures efficiently, with a strong focus on the quality of surgical outcomes at extremely competitive rates for patients and medical schemes. All day-hospital developments are based on the company’s business model, in terms of which facilities are developed in partnership with participating medical practitioners to ensure that medical quality and technology objectives are met, with Advanced adding value by concentrating on overall management, staff and increased efficiencies through central services such as information technology and accounting services.

😁 We recently had the great privilege to welcome Dr Petrie van der Merwe (Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgeon) to Advanced Worcester Surgical Centre. 😁

Dr van der Merwe is expanding his practice to serve the community of Worcester. Dr van der Merwe was joined in theatre by our shining and talented Lesanne Wolfaardt (Registered Nurse), and Dr Kobus van der Colff, who recently retired. It is a bittersweet moment for our team at Worcester as we bid farewell to Dr van der Colff, who has been with us for almost a decade, and welcome Dr van der Merwe, and look forward to the road ahead.

This role involves supporting the Registered Nurse and scrub team to deliver safe, high-quality patient care while maintaining a sterile and efficient theatre environment.
Key responsibilities include:
✔ Assisting during surgical procedures and anaesthesia
✔ Preparing and maintaining a sterile operating theatre
✔ Providing evidence-based patient care in line with SANC and hospital standards
✔ Ensuring accurate documentation, stock control, and risk management

Meet Dr Alison Taylor, Ophthalmologist 👁️

With over 35 years’ experience, Dr Taylor is a general ophthalmologist with a special focus on paediatric eye care and medical retina. She manages diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, retinal conditions, glaucoma (medical care), and a wide range of hospital-based medical eye cases.

She offers cataract surgery, squint surgery, and a full range of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) guided diagnostics and retinal laser treatments.

For highly specialised care — such as glaucoma surgery, retinal surgery, major trauma, oculoplastic or ocular oncology — she collaborates closely with leading subspecialists to ensure every patient receives the most appropriate treatment.

Dr Taylor has officially relocated from Johannesburg and is now permanently based in Simon’s Town. We are thrilled to have her here full-time and look forward to the expert care she will bring to our community.

Dr Taylor will be consulting at Advanced Harbour Bay from 20 January 2026.
