Meet Dr Alison Taylor, Ophthalmologist 👁️

With over 35 years’ experience, Dr Taylor is a general ophthalmologist with a special focus on paediatric eye care and medical retina. She manages diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, retinal conditions, glaucoma (medical care), and a wide range of hospital-based medical eye cases.

She offers cataract surgery, squint surgery, and a full range of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) guided diagnostics and retinal laser treatments.

For highly specialised care — such as glaucoma surgery, retinal surgery, major trauma, oculoplastic or ocular oncology — she collaborates closely with leading subspecialists to ensure every patient receives the most appropriate treatment.

Dr Taylor has officially relocated from Johannesburg and is now permanently based in Simon’s Town. We are thrilled to have her here full-time and look forward to the expert care she will bring to our community.

Dr Taylor will be consulting at Advanced Harbour Bay from 20 January 2026.

🌞 Protect Your Child’s Eyes from UV Damage!
Children’s eyes are naturally more susceptible to UV exposure because their eyes allow more light to enter. They also spend more time outdoors than adults, often without proper sun protection. UV damage to the eyes is cumulative and mostly irreversible, which is why it’s so important to protect young eyes early.

According to ZEISS Vision Care:

• UV exposure can cause serious eye conditions such as cataracts later in life.
• Eyes can be affected by UV radiation even on cloudy days, and exposure is often highest in the early morning and late afternoon, not just at midday.

💡 Tips to Protect Your Child’s Eyes:
• Always wear sunglasses with 99–100% UVA and UVB protection.
• Choose glasses that wrap around the face to block UV rays from the sides, can’t break easily, and don’t have sharp edges.
• Use a wide-brimmed hat or cap to protect from sunlight entering the top of the glasses.
• Make sure the lenses bear the CE mark and the UV-400 label
• If your child wears prescription glasses, UV-blocking lenses or prescription sunglasses are a must.

Advanced Health Day Hospital Group recently hosted and sponsored a Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) Workshop for fibroids and adenomyosis – presented by Dr. Viju Thomas (SA’s 1st Robotic Endometriosis Surgeon & the country’s first dedicated Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) specialist), together with the STARmed team, Dr. Ida Ferrara and Giovanni Giusti, international experts in the field.

The workshop featured two live case presentations, showcasing this innovative, minimally invasive technology, along with hands-on sessions where delegates could practice on the equipment.

RFA is a safe, precise and lasting alternative treatment option for many women. Treatment with no overnight stays, faster recovery times and life-changing results.

The aim is to complete 25 cases by June 2026 for submission to medical aids. This is a huge step forward in expanding treatment options for women across South Africa & Africa.
