Today you are stubborn,
My patience is thin
Today you’ll persist
Until I will give in

Today you are wilful
You’re strong and you’re bold
Today you’ll refuse to do
Things you are told

Today you will follow
Wherever I go
Today you will scream
When my answer is no

Today you are fierce
And today you are wild
Today you’ll remind me
That you are a child

Today every minute
Will seem to last hours
But over the years
I will realise your power

I’ll realise your stubbornness
Means you’re determined
And I’ll admire how you have
Learnt to stand firm and

How you know when
To sit down or step up
So full of conviction,
Self-worth and self-trust

So today you’ll be stubborn
Today you’ll be fierce
Today you’ll have spirit
That must persevere

Today you’re determined
Today you’ll be loud
But tomorrow you’ll lead
From the front of the crowd

And where once you were wild
I want you to stay
I don’t want you quietened,
Silenced or tamed

‘Cause yesterday’s bold
Will soon one day I’m sure
Be a force that our world
Has not known of before

And today you will talk
Of the impossible
But tomorrow I know -
You’ll be unstoppable

******

For all the whirlwinds and the wilds out there - stay wild ❤

This is a very very overdue post...
Earlier in the year we were fortunate to have a wonderful, gentle soul join our herd of mentors. WELCOME TORNADO!
Tornado is an Arab x Quarter Horse. Arabian horses, one of the oldest horse breeds, are known for their intelligence and loyalty. American Quarter Horses are known for their amazing work ethic, calm demeanor and willingness to connect with humans.
Tornado has it all!! He is a firm favourite in our EAL sessions, always comes to greet the participants, quick to grasp what is needed and always willing to give his best to support his human. He has also integrated wonderfully with the herd, showing how amazing our herd is and his true nature. Thank you Tornado for becoming part of the family.

What is Equine Assisted Learning?

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a unique approach to experiential learning, where clients are offered safe experiences with horses for the purpose of learning social-emotional skills, personal development, and professional development skills (e.g. leadership and team building). EAL is a fast-growing modality across Australia and the globe. Many clients benefit greatly from EAL services, including children, adolescents and adults.

The beautiful thing about horses is that people feel seen in their presence 🐴✨

Horses do not have the biases we have as humans. Because of this, horses provide a nonjudgmental relationship where it feels safe to bring our authentic selves to the experience, including feelings of deficiencies, hurt, pain, insecurities, and fears. For some clients in mental health services, this can be the first time experiencing a relationship like this. To be truly seen and heard is a foundation for feeling safe and healing.

Horses are merely the facilitators building human relationships… once relationships are built you can go anywhere!

Horses have an incredible ability to interpret human emotions. In 2019, psychologists demonstrated that horses could recognize a human's mood from their facial expressions and differentiate between anger and happiness. Without training the horses, the psychologists showed 28 horses several pictures of unfamiliar faces, either angry or smiling. Then, they had the people from the images meet the horses, wearing neutral expressions.

In each case, the horses responded negatively to the people presented as angry and positively to those shown as happy. The findings show that horses can recognize and react to how people present themselves emotionally and respond accordingly.

When incorporated into mental health and personal growth services, horses can make real and positive impacts on our mental health and personal growth journeys due to their ability to recognize and react to human emotions, and help us look at ourselves in a new light.
