🔥 Dehydration

Watch for:

• Excessive thirst
• Darker urine & going to the loo less often
• Dizziness, headaches
• Confusion or unusual drowsiness (especially in the elderly)

🔥 Heat Stroke
(medical emergency)

Risk increases with long heat exposure or exercise in hot weather.

Symptoms may include:

• Very high body temperature
• Hot, clammy OR very dry skin
• Confusion, delirium, dizziness
• Headaches
• Fast heart rate & palpitations
• Excessive thirst & reduced urination

👶👵 Higher-risk groups: infants & the elderly

✅ Prevention Tips

• Drink plenty of water
• Keep cool — aircon, fans, cool rooms
• Light clothing (especially for infants & elderly)
• Sponge down with cool water
• Use cold cloths or ice packs if needed

🚑 Seek medical help immediately if someone feels very unwell or shows severe symptoms.

Yesterday we received a call for medical assistance at a business premises in Bellville after two men were injured while handling heavy boards. The materials reportedly became unstable and fell onto them during offloading.

Medical assistance was dispatched without delay.

Our medic arrived on scene to assess and treat both patients.

We commend the management on site for acting swiftly and ensuring that medical assistance was requested immediately.

🩸 Bleeding Emergencies: What You Need to Know

Uncontrolled bleeding can be life-threatening and knowing what to do can save a life.

Dr. Earl-Rae Husselmann from Secure Doctors explains the three types of bleeding:

🔴 Arterial – bright red, spurting
🟥 Venous – dark red, steady flow
🩹 Capillary – slow oozing

What to do:
✔️ Ensure safety & call Securemed: 021 559 3020
✔️ Apply firm, direct pressure (don’t remove soaked dressings - add more)
✔️ Elevate the limb if possible
✔️ Use a tourniquet if severe bleeding won’t stop (note the time)

⚠️ Don’t remove objects stuck in a wound.
