A big moment for wellness in South Africa! 💚
Virgin Active has just launched its first Collection Country Club in Cape Town: a beautiful “social wellness” space where fitness, recovery, nutrition, co‑working and community all live under one roof.
It’s incredible to see this level of investment in holistic wellbeing. The new club was designed to support every part of a person: mental, physical, social and emotional health, recognising that we all need more than just exercise to feel our best.

At Core Wellbeing, we love this shift.
So much of the work we do is centred on helping people regulate stress, build resilience, strengthen habits and find a healthier rhythm in busy lives. Seeing a space in South Africa intentionally designed for prevention, restoration and community connection is such a positive step forward.

Here’s to more spaces that help people reset, recharge and truly take care of themselves, not just physically, but in every dimension of wellbeing. 🌱✨

✨ 500 hours of health coaching — and my heart is so full ✨

Today I clocked 500 hours of health coaching since starting this journey in early 2023, and I’ve been reflecting on just how transformative this work has been.

Coaching first changed me.
My health improved: better nutrition, more balanced eating, fewer cravings.
My wellbeing deepened: learning to manage anxiety and regulate my nervous system.
My approach to life shifted: prioritising faith, marriage, family, fun, and wellbeing… and letting purpose follow authentically.
My parenting softened: calmer, more balanced, more present, more caring.

And then there’s the privilege of walking alongside others.

Whether through corporate workshops and talks, supporting teams, or working with individuals and couples; being invited into people’s worlds, their challenges, heartaches, hopes, and successes is something I never take lightly. Watching clients firmly grasp their vision with both hands and say “I did it” is incredibly special.

Coaching isn’t always easy. There are challenging moments. But my training, the process, and deep trust in the work always guide the way through to the other side.

One of my favourite observations?
When I check my Garmin, my stress levels flatline during coaching sessions. My body becomes fully present. The outside world switches off. I fall naturally into rhythm with my client’s needs and that alignment is a beautiful thing.

I’m so proud of what these 500 hours have taught me, and how they’ve empowered me to move forward with confidence, depth, and purpose, ready to touch many more lives.

I feel incredibly privileged to do this work every day:
to hold space,
to help people process, heal, and grow,
and to walk alongside them as real change unfolds.

Here’s to the next 500 hours 💚
I love what I do and I’m just getting started!

Wellbeing Is Not One-Size-Fits-All

Wellbeing looks different for everyone and that’s exactly how it should be.

Some people need:
• Video-based support for busy schedules
• 1:1 coaching for clarity, balance, and performance
• Group or team coaching to shift culture
• Or immersive retreats to reconnect with nature, food, and mindful living

At Core Wellbeing, we focus on integration bringing wellbeing into daily life, work, relationships, and leadership.

Because real wellbeing isn’t something you add on.
It’s something you build into how you live.

Moving from Rescuing to Empowering

Awareness is powerful — and it’s only the beginning.
Once we notice the Rescuer pattern (see previous two posts), the next step isn’t doing less caring.

It’s shifting how we care.
Empowerment doesn’t mean stepping away.
It means trusting others to build their own strength while protecting your own energy.
Sometimes that looks like:

Pausing before helping
Letting others solve what’s theirs
Choosing a boundary instead of over‑giving

These small shifts create space.
Space for growth, responsibility, and wellbeing — on both sides.

This isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about choosing sustainability over depletion. 🌱

If You Relate to the Rescuer Role

If the idea of the Rescuer role resonated in our previous video, it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.

For many people, rescuing developed early as a strength - being capable, reliable, helpful, needed. It often comes from care, not control.

The challenge is that over time, this pattern can quietly pull us out of balance. We start carrying more than is ours, feeling responsible for how others cope, and leaving less space for our own needs.

A gentle first step isn’t changing everything at once — it’s noticing.

Noticing where you step in automatically.
Noticing when “helping” costs you more than it gives.

This is where boundaries come in.
Boundaries aren’t walls, they’re support structures.
Even a simple pause, or a considered “no”, can create enough space for self‑responsibility to return, for you and for others.

Awareness doesn’t mean you stop caring.
It means you begin caring in a way that’s sustainable. 🌱

When Helping Becomes Depleting

Many people think their biggest wellbeing challenge is time, motivation, or discipline.

In our experience as health coaches, it’s more often this ⬇️
👉 The Rescuer role in the Karpman Drama Triangle — a relational model first described by psychiatrist Stephen Karpman in 1968.

These patterns often show up both at work and in everyday life, especially for capable, caring people.

When we move into rescuing, usually with the best intentions, we can unintentionally disempower others and slowly exhaust ourselves.

Learning to say “No”, which really is a complete sentence, is often the first boundary.
And the space a boundary creates is where self‑responsibility can grow, and where you finally get to put your own oxygen mask on.

That’s not selfish.
That’s how we sustain ourselves — and actually thrive. 🌱

Interesting to see the suggested approach to Obesity in the Dischem summer magazine.

There is mention of weight loss medications, Ozempic and Wegovy, but it goes straight on to warn of their side affects. The article continues with a focus on losing weight through eating whole foods, drinking water, exercising and making sure to have healthy protein with your meals.

Well done Dis-Chem Pharmacies for finding a balance between punting your own products and supporting a holistic approach to health.

As health coaches we're working every day with clients that are implementing healthy lifestyle and nutrition changes and seeing their lives transformed. The hope is that main stream media continues to support the shift towards a sustainable solution.

Health coach, Lisa Glaister was honored to be asked recently to write an article for the Midlands Magazine health feature, which will come out in March's edition. Her focus was a similar tone: start with small changes, focus on healthy habits and avoid the quick fix weightloss approach.

Here's to a future with less processed food available to consumers and a shift towards healthier bodies, minds, relationships and most importantly an increased awareness for children's needs who are at the mercy of what's put in front of them.

Great progress being made!
Yesterday the US announced their new food pyramid. The food pyramid is essentially the government guidelines to the public for what defines a healthy balanced diet. It's fantastic to see the old 1992 version (which encouraged processed foods) turned on it's head. This new pyramid is all about real whole food and doing away with processed foods! It's very encouraging to see this approach taken at a national level. The closer we can eat our food to the form it was grown, the better.

A few statements from their announcement: "Every meal must prioritize high-quality, nutrient-dense protein from both animal and plant sources, paired with healthy fats from whole foods. Vegetables and fruits are essential to real food nutrition. Eat a wide variety of whole, colorful, nutrient-dense vegetables and fruits in their original form. Whole grains are encouraged. Refined carbohydrates are not." And most importantly "Reduce the consumption of highly processed, refined carbohydrates that displace real nourishment."
