Checking in on your mental health is just as important as going for a physical check-up. Remember, your mental wellbeing is just as important as your physical wellbeing🧘‍♂️.

Here are 3 ways that you can have a mental check-in every day🧠:

- Take a moment and asses how you are feeling on a scale of 1-10.
- Find out what could be triggering you.
- Set reminders for check-ins on specific days or anniversaries.

What time of the day is your favourite time to have a check-in? 🩺

Choosing a counsellor is just as important as choosing a home. 🏠

We all want to feel safe and secure in our houses, why wouldn’t you want to feel the same way with your counsellor?

Remember these 4 things when choosing your next counsellor:

1. They actually listen to you and actively listen to you. 👂
2. They make you feel validated and validate your feelings. ❤️‍🩹
3. They earn your trust and don’t just expect that it’s a given. 🤝
4. They give you practical feedback for your situation. 🗣

Does your mental health professional have these traits?

Due to the pandemic, working from home has become a new norm that we face. This comes with its own set of challenges, so it’s important for you to have boundaries in place so you can have a healthy working-from-home experience. 🧑‍💻

Here are a few boundaries that I recommend you set:

1. Have set working hours - if you don’t already, it’s important for you to establish a time for when you have to be in ‘work mode.’ ⏰

2. Have a designated working space - we all know that it’s really tempting to work from your bed, but try to create a workspace for yourself. 🖥

3. Plan out your days - whether you use a book planner or an electronic calendar, planning out your days can help you use your time at home more productively. 📅

Can coffee worsen anxiety? ☕

Yes, it can. Coffee can give you a jittery or nervous feeling. Caffeine can cause a similar effect on the body as a frightening event does. It’s known as the ‘fight or flight’ response. Now imagine this happening every time you have a cup of coffee? That doesn’t sound fun right? 😬

Coffee cannot CAUSE anxiety but it can worsen anxiety. Try limiting the amount of caffeine that you consume in a day if you suffer from anxiety!

We’re a month into the new year but it’s never too late to start improving your mental health. 💪

Here are 5 ways that you can improve your mental health this year:

1. Looking after yourself physically helps to improve your mental well-being.
2. Try practising self-care
3. Unfollow people who bring negativity into your life.
4. Cut down on drinking.
5. Practicing mindfulness.

The birth of a baby can trigger a lot of different emotions, and depression can be one of them… 💔

Postpartum depression may eventually interfere with your ability to care for your baby and handle other daily tasks. Symptoms usually develop within the first few weeks after giving birth but may begin during pregnancy or up to a year after birth.

Some symptoms include:

Depressed mood or severe mood swings
Excessive crying
Difficulty bonding with your baby
Withdrawing from family and friends
Loss of appetite or eating much more than usual
Inability to sleep (insomnia) or sleeping too much

Self-care is the last thing on your mind when you are having a bad day mentally, but it’s extremely important to prioritise it on days like these.

Here are a few self-care ideas for those tough days:

1. Eat healthily and have regular meals 🥗- it’s really hard to prioritise eating when you are feeling down but it's important to continue to fuel your body.

2. Try and exercise 🏃‍♂️- exercising releases endorphins (known as the feel-good hormone) which helps to enhance your sense of well-being. It can be a simple walk or a HIIT workout - any movement is good!

3. Prioritise sleep😴- prioritising sleep and rest is essential when you’re working on your mental health.
