March is World Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month 💚
Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of permanent neurological disorders that affects the development of movement, posture and coordination. It is caused by an injury or difference in the developing foetal or infant brain, often before or shortly after birth. CP is not progressive.
The motor disorder of CP is often accompanied by difficulties with sensory processing, cognition and/or communication and possibly epilepsy and secondary musculoskeletal problems.
Every child with CP is unique, with their own strengths, challenges, and incredible potential. Early support can make a meaningful difference in helping children build skills, confidence, and independence.
Paediatric physiotherapists play an important role in supporting children with CP by helping them develop movement skills, improve strength and balance, and find the best ways to participate in everyday activities like playing, learning, and exploring their world.
This month we celebrate the resilience of children with CP and the dedication of their families, while continuing to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and support every child in reaching their full potential. 💚
