If I wasn’t afraid to hurt your feelings… as your OT I would say:
1. Consistency matters.
One OT session a week can’t undo six days of no follow-through at home — your child needs repetition and carry over from the OT sessions.
2. Progress is rarely linear, and comparison is harmful.
When you measure your child against someone else’s child, you take away from their unique growth curve, which is valid even when slow.
3. Your child doesn’t need to be fixed — they need to be understood.
It’s often the environment, expectations and pace that need adjusting before the child ever does.
4. Independence doesn’t grow when we do everything for them.
Let them struggle a little — that wobble, frustration and retry is where real skill is built.
5. Your presence and patience are more therapeutic than any tool I own.
No sensory swing, pencil grip or weighted vest will ever replace connection, regulation and feeling safe with you. This is where progress and growth starts….
