Our team hits the streets, engaging with communities in various areas. From distributing pamphlets at busy intersections to door-to-door outreach, we're dedicated to spreading the word about our studies and who SBRI is.

Every year, South Africa celebrates National Nutrition Week to raise awareness about healthy eating and the importance of good nutrition for all.

Led by the Department of Health and partners, focuses on “Food for Health, Health for All” – reminding us that nutritious, local, and affordable foods are key to reducing malnutrition and diet-related diseases.

At SBRI, we support the movement towards a healthier, well-nourished nation. 🌾

We feel privileged to have played a part in the Gilead Sciences clinical trials that lead to the development of Lenacapavir, a type of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) – which is a game-changer in South Africa’s fight against HIV. The health department, with R513-million ($29.2-million) from the Global Fund, will initially procure the branded version of LEN from Gilead Sciences (in April 2026). By April 2027, the government anticipates transitioning to more cost-effective generics.

“It's truly exciting to see our work translate to a public health intervention to protect millions of lives. I’m so happy that my teenage children, my family, and the global community will have a safe and efficacious option to protect themselves from HIV.” Dr Mookho Malahleha, CEO at SBRI.

The roll-out plan will be supported by awareness campaigns co-designed with high-risk communities, utilising social media and radio to ensure the message reaches those who need it most.
