# The Morning Race
One bright morning, I decided to go for a jog. As I was running, I saw someone ahead of me, not too far away. He was jogging slower than I was, so I thought, "I can catch up to him!"
I had a bit to go before I needed to take my turn, so I started running faster. Every few steps, I was getting closer. Soon, I was just a short distance behind him. I pushed myself even harder, like I was in a big race.
Finally, I did it! I passed him. I felt so proud. "I beat him!" I thought to myself. But then I realized, he didn't even know we were racing.
After I passed him, I noticed something. I was so focused on catching up to him that I missed my turn. I had run way too far and had to turn back.
This made me think. Sometimes in life, we do the same thing. We focus so much on competing with others—our classmates, friends, even family—that we forget our own goals and paths.
When we try to outdo others, we waste our time and energy. There's always going to be someone with better grades, cooler gadgets, or more friends.
Remember this: "You can be the best you can be when you are not competing with anyone."
Some people feel bad because they compare themselves to others too much. Instead, appreciate what you have. Be proud of who you are. Wear your clothes with confidence and stay focused on your own goals.
Life isn't a competition. Run your own race and be happy for others, too.
