My husband and I taught a Reiki Practitioner Level course over the weekend to three wonderful ladies 💫😇

Many people arrive at Reiki Level 2 training feeling unsure if they’re truly ready… and almost always leave wondering why they waited so long. 😇

This weekend we taught another beautiful Reiki Level 2 course at our home. Something we hear almost every time, happened again: "I hope it’s okay… I didn’t practise a lot after Level 1.”

And our answer is always the same: that's okay. Because Reiki Level 2 - known in Japanese as Okuden (“the inner teachings”) - is often where everything begins to make sense on a deep level and incorporating Reiki into your daily life becomes effortless and natural.

One of my favourite moments as a teacher is hearing about the student's first distance healing exercise. Students sit in separate rooms while one "sends" a Reiki treatment to the other and then come back together to share their experiences. It's almost magical when they discover matching sensations, images, or insights. Everyone feels very exciting and in that moment, it's very clear that something had shifted. Doubt softens, confidence increases, and Reiki moves from concept to lived experience. 🥰

Every student group brings its own unique energy, and we feel deeply grateful to have been able to guide these three ladies a little deeper into Reiki, and into their own inner knowing 🤍

We're excited to read their case studies, after which we will issue them their Practitioner Certificates so that they can start giving Reiki treatments professionally. 🙌

Self-love doesn’t rush to answer those questions. It goes within to create space to breathe, feel, and reconnect with your true, beautiful, magnificent self.

This is why my February self-care Reiki offer isn’t about fixing anything, it’s about supporting your nervous system and your inner world so that you can fall in love with yourself again. 🥰

Self-criticism often pretends to be helpful. We might think that the criticizing thoughts are “keeping us sharp” or “motivating us”. But more often than not, it causes tenseness in the body, drains our energy, and disconnects us from true selves.

When you choose self-love in stead, it doesn’t mean you are lowering your standards. No, it just means you are supporting yourself while you grow. 🥰

For February, I’m offering a Valentine’s self-care Reiki special. It's a gentle way to step out of self-criticism and into rest and care.

What does judging yourself, sound like? Here are a few examples:
“I should be better by now.”
“Why am I like this?”
“Other people cope better than I do.”

Self-judgment show up as harsh comparison, second-guessing yourself, or feeling like you’re somehow falling short.

To shift from self-judgment to self-love, doesn’t require silencing that voice completely. You may just have to meet it with a little more curiosity and compassion. 🥰

February, being the month of all things love, feels like a good time to practice a little more kindness - especially with ourselves!

Second time meeting and we arrive dressed almost the same 😄✨

This is Alexa, a fellow Reiki practitioner who recently moved to the Mossel Bay area, and one of those beautiful Reiki-universe connections that happen when you’re meant to meet.

We spent two hours this morning talking about all things Reiki, building heart-led practices, collaboration, and how supporting one another only strengthens the healing work in our community. We’re not in competition - we simply offer more options for people to find a practitioner they truly resonate with. 😇

Alexa’s Reiki work is deeply inspired by her background in zoology and her connection to nature, while my work has the added layer of teaching and mentoring Reiki students. Different paths, shared values.

Neglecting yourself can be a case of postponing rest, ignoring your own needs, or telling yourself that you’ll get to yourself “later”.

The good news is that to shift from self-neglect to self-love doesn’t mean you have to do More.

You may just have to do one small thing differently: like listening to your body sooner, resting earlier, choosing yourself without feeling guilty for doing so.

This month, I’m setting aside February as invitation for self-care whether that be as an act of self-love, or to offer someone else the chance to prioritize themselves.
