Stop justifying or indirectly supporting someone's harmful behavior. In the long run it will cause you more heartache and they will find themselves deeper in a hole that is not that simple to get out of.
When we downplay the severity of the addiction or we rationalize their behavior by making excuses for it, we are enabling them to continue in their dysfunction. People that are caught up the throws of addiction cannot see the wood for the tree's at times. When they manipulate and lie and do what they do, it is due to the fact that they have been overcome by their substance use disorder and they are not in a position to make better decisions. It is time to step in and help your loved one out of their mess - reach out to us - we can help you.

People take drugs because they want to change something in their lives.

Here are some of the reasons young people have given for taking Why do people use drugs:

To fit in
To escape or relax
To relieve boredom
To seem grown up
To rebel
To experiment
They think drugs are a solution. But eventually, the drugs become the problem.

Drugs are essentially poisons. The amount taken determines the effect. A small amount acts as a stimulant (speeds you up). A greater amount acts as a sedative (slows you down). An even larger amount poisons and can kill.
