Rare Disease Day reminds us that behind every rare diagnosis is a person, a child, a parent, a friend, who deserves timely care, understanding, and opportunity. At NBI, we are proud to deliver essential plasma-derived medicines, including immunoglobulins used to treat primary immunodeficiencies and clotting factor products used to treat haemophilia, and other rare bleeding disorders.

This year’s theme, Equity, is a call to action: to strive for faster diagnoses, improved access to specialist care and life-saving therapies, and meaningful inclusion of patients in the decisions that shape lives.
Equity starts with awareness, it grows through action and it becomes real when we stand together. Let’s make equity visible wherever we live, learn, and work.

NBI proudly supports the African Society for Blood Transfusion (AfSBT) and Africa Indaba through Red Saturday, an initiative that exemplifies African solidarity.

On Saturday, 29 November 2025, thousands across the continent will unite to give the gift of life through blood donation. More than a blood drive, Red Saturday is a powerful symbol of unity, compassion, and collective action to support hospitals and patients in need.
Eligible donors in South Africa are encouraged to visit the below websites to locate participating blood donation clinics:
• The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS): www.wcbs.org.za
• The South African National Blood Service (SANBS): www.sanbs.org.za

Together, let’s make a difference.

On 28 October 2025, NBI was honoured to host the 2025/2026 Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Fellows for a dynamic day of learning and collaboration. This prestigious fellowship program, led by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, aims to strengthen public health leadership across the continent. Representing 18 African nations, the Fellows embody the next generation of public health changemakers, committed to mentorship, innovation, and strategic development.
The NBI program featured a powerful presentation on plasma access in Africa, guiding the Fellows through the entire plasma journey - from donation and the application of Good Manufacturing Practice standards in fractionation, to strategic partnerships enabling Plasma Derived Medicinal Product access across the continent.
The behind-the-scenes tour of the NBI Manufacturing facilities inspired thoughtful dialogue and great interest in NBI’s operations. The enthusiasm and engagement of our visitors were truly evident.
NBI extends its sincere gratitude to the Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Fellows for their curiosity, engagement, and inspiring presence.
We are grateful to our NBI employees who made this visit a success. Your professionalism, insight, and passion continue to drive progress in global health.
